    How complex it is to install a 20mt tall wing on a ship?🔧🚢 During the latest episode of RAW GREEN🎤🌵, we explored the process of retrofitting ships with AirWings technology with George Thompson, CEO of GT Wings. George explained that while the process is slightly more complex for retrofits compared to new builds, it remains straightforward and efficient. For retrofits, additional steel structures are required to integrate the AirWing into the existing ship structure. This involves reinforcing the deck to handle the forces and moments generated by the wing, typically using about six tons of steel. ⚓🔩 The actual installation of the AirWing is quick, taking only a day or two, thanks to its modular design. The wing bolts onto the deck with an umbilical cord, allowing for seamless integration. The part of the process that takes the most time is reinforcing the structure underneath, which can take up to five days dockside.     During the latest episode of RAW GREEN 🎤🌵, George Thompson explained that the next step for GT Wings is the first sea trial scheduled for this November. A new active wind propulsion system will be installed on a 124-meter general cargo vessel traveling between Canada and Europe, owned by Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd and chartered by Canadian company Fednav Limited. 🌍⚡ Due to limited space on the vessel, the device will be placed on a two-by-two-meter area on the forecastle, cleverly fitting amid the existing cargo cranes, holds, and mooring equipment. 📏⚓ While two to three units would be ideal for a ship of this size, even a single 20-meter unit is expected to deliver impressive results. By using a combination of suction and blowing, they manipulate the boundary layer flow around the propulsion device. This allows the flow to bend more than it naturally would, thanks to a small energy input. As a result, these systems achieve a much higher thrust or lift coefficient, extracting far more power from the wind with minimal energy investment. 💡🌊 This breakthrough in wind propulsion technology promises to make shipping more sustainable by reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This design allows each section to operate separately, delivering 700 megawatts per section and gradually scaling up to a total of almost 3 gigawatts of power. This approach offers numerous benefits: 🔧 Organizational Efficiency: Streamlining management and operations by handling each section independently. 💰 Financing Flexibility: Facilitating staggered investments and financial planning for each section. 🔌 Grid Stability: Preventing the grid from being overwhelmed by a sudden influx of 3 gigawatts of intermittent power, ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply.     ⚡🌪 MEDWIND's Massive Impact: 2.8 GW and 9 TWh of Clean Energy🌪 ⚡ The Renexia Spa MEDWIND project is taking offshore wind energy to a whole new level with a capacity of 2.8 gigawatts. Pellegrino Guerriero shared some impressive statistics: "We are producing nine terawatt-hours of electricity annually, which is a staggering amount. To put this into perspective, the entire electricity consumption of Sicily is about 16 terawatt-hours. So, our wind farm alone produces more than half of the island’s total electricity needs. "🌍⚡ However, the current grid can't handle this massive influx of power. For the Renexia Spa MedWind project, Pellegrino Guerriero shared some fascinating insights: "We need to study the area comprehensively. This includes investigating the presence of bacteria, marine life 🐠, corals 🪸, and fishing activities 🎣. We also conduct archaeological surveys 🏺". During the explorations, two Roman amphoras and two World War II planes were discovered — one from the US Navy and one from the Luftwaffe.
