World Building of The Year revealed at World Architecture Festival 2024! The Darlington Public School in Australia by fjcstudio has been declared the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2024. fjcstudio previously won Building of the Year in 2013, making it the first practice in WAF’s history to win the award twice. The community school is located on the outskirts of Sydney, and has a strong connection to Aboriginal people embodied in its redesign. The transformed school now seamlessly connects to its surroundings, offering glimpses of the inner courtyard from the main entrance, promoting a sense of privacy and community for the children, as well as providing facilities that are publicly accessible including the community hall, covered outdoor learning area and library. The redesign embraces the rich indigenous culture through the artistic heritage of the school, conserving and displaying aboriginal artworks around the school to preserve stories of the country for future generations. A community garden with indigenous plants has also been created to teach students indigenous cooking and culture. 【Digital Technology as an Enabler to City Planning】   ROF Media wishes to express our gratitude for Prof. Jason Pomeroy insightful article which appeared in The Lighthouse, the member’s magazine of Lighthouse Club International , Q3 edition.   Prof. Pomeroy’s expertise and perspective on the intersection of digital technology and urban planning are not only enlightening but also pivotal in shaping future city developments. The practical applications and innovative ideas you presented will undoubtedly inspire many in the field. “As an architect, academic and TV presenter focused on the subject of smart and sustainable cities, I have always been fascinated in the way cities have evolved, how they are represented, and understood,” he says.   “I am an advocate for a new DT paradigm that is designed to go beyond the mirroring of the ‘physical world’ in the digital realm, but one that is able to learn of the practices found within the ‘social world’ in order for meaningful adaptations to be made to the built environment that can enhance people’s lives. Ultimately, the new DT paradigm endeavours to go beyond spatial metrics, to also integrate social, environmental, technological, cultural, and economic data-sets to transform the natural and built environment into one that is smarter, future-proofed, and more inclusive.” – Prof. Jason Pomeroy   To view the article online, in full please visit: https://lnkd.in/ghEWBNbc #architect #sustainability #singapore #jasonpomeroy

Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) held a fashion show yesterday (5 November 2024), showing Chanel Cruise 2024/25 Collection. Guests included G-Dragon, the King of K-pop, internationally renowned actress Penelope Cruz, and Hong Kong stars Chow Yun-fat, Carina Lau, Stephen Fung, Hins Cheung and more.   HKDI is located in the former industrial area of Tseung Kwan O and was designed by French architecture firm Coldefy & Associés Architectes Urbanistes (CAAU). The design concept of this iconic building comes from "a white paper floating in the air". The entire composition, created by interpenetration between the interlinked elements, including the building base, the podium, the “sky city”, the towers and the landscaped roof, defines the Institute as a timeless building and reveals its objectives of promoting synergy, publicity and interactivity.   In 2014, the building won the Quality Excellence Award, the highest honor of the Quality Building Awards in Hong Kong, also winning multiple international architectural awards. Its extra-long escalator and vertical and horizontal interweaving structure has a surreal sense of the future, and at the same time, it has the design connotation of inheriting the past and linking to the future.   “We have selected an interesting area with very interesting architecture and a very ‘Hong Kong’ vibe, and on top of that, it’s one of the biggest institutions for students in Hong Kong, so it’s a great opportunity for us to collaborate.” says Bruno Pavlovsky, President of fashion at Chanel. 【Hongkong Land announces new strategy】 In a circular issued to shareholders on 29 Oct 2024, Hongkong Land announced actions to focus on the development of ultra-premium integrated commercial properties in Asia’s gateway cities to drive sustainable, long-term growth. The new strategy will see the Group no longer invest in the build-to-sell segment across Asia, which consists of residential and medium-term lease assets. Instead, the Group will actively recycle capital out from this segment into new integrated commercial property opportunities as it completes all existing projects. The new strategy aims to reinforce Hongkong Land’s core capabilities, generate growth in long-term recurring income and deliver superior returns to shareholders. It follows the appointment of Michael Smith as Chief Executive of the Group on 1 April 2024 and is the result of a thorough review conducted over the past six months.
