On May 7, 2024, PT Greencore Resources Indonesia (SEArcular by Greencore Resources Ltd) and Max M. Craipeau ♻️ joined forces with Happy Hearts Indonesia to support TK Bina Anaprasa in Surabaya, East Java. Established in 1989, TK Bina Anaprasa plays a critical role in Medokan Semampir village, providing early childhood education to children, particularly those from waste picker families. However, despite its vital impact, the school's infrastructure faces safety concerns. Through this impactful partnership, PT Greencore Resources Indonesia has committed to supporting the school's transition into an eco-friendly Block School. This innovative construction method will not only address the safety concerns but also create a sustainable learning environment for future generations of students. Together, we can build a brighter future for education. SEArcular by Greencore Resources Ltd is making a transformative impact by funding the r𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 🏫 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 🇮🇩 𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞, home to many remarkable 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 we are privileged to work with. But we're not stopping there. We're 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 250 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚, aiming to instill environmental consciousness in the next generation. Additionally, we're committed to enhancing the quality of life for waste pickers, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 and essential protective gear to hundreds of them in the coming few weeks and months. Waste Pickers are the real heroes of our plastic ridden world and pivotal in our collective fight against plastic pollution ♻. The school's current state, with damaged roofs and walls, restricts many deserving children from receiving their education. Through a groundbreaking partnership with Happy Hearts Indonesia, we're rebuilding this school using 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬, significantly increasing its capacity to welcome more students. This initiative opens doors to education for more children, removing barriers related to space and finances. Works shall be completed next month in May. This comprehensive strategy highlights our commitment to making a multifaceted impact across Indonesia, aiming not just to curb ocean plastic pollution, but also to enhance educational access, advocate for environmental responsibility, and uplift those who are tirelessly working towards a cleaner and more sustainable future for our cherished nation. #EducationForAll #SustainableDevelopment #Empowerment #greencore #underpriviledged #school #ecobricks #tikunolam #carefortheplanet #careforpeople #wastepickers #loveindonesia #educate #empower #elevate #happyhearts

𝐁𝐈𝐑 🌏 Q2-2024 ♻ 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚 and Eastern Europe. In Asia, challenges are being posed to the PET sector by 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬, influenced by the 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐄𝐓 and disruption to 𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬. In Eastern 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞, meanwhile, the 𝐮𝐩𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐏𝐄𝐓 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 has continued into 2024, supported by upcoming minimum recycled content legislation (𝐒𝐔𝐏). In South East Asia's recycling sector, the cost of baled PET bottles remains high owing to the attractive pricing of virgin PET from China, leading bottle producers to choose it over the more expensive rPET. This preference, driven by cost savings and the absence of strict minimum 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, has reduced the demand for food-grade rPET. Consequently, recyclers can offer less for bales, diminishing the incentive to collect and creating a scarcity that drives up bale prices, thus complicating the economics for recycled materials. Ongoing geopolitical tensions have 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 and prompted buyers to seek lower prices for Asian rPET cargoes. Despite these pressures, recyclers are constrained by their own rising feedstock and production costs. Shipping costs on key trade lanes from Asia to Northern Europe surged from US$ 1300 per 40-foot container in October last year to US$ 5000 in early February. In general, Asia's recyclers have been unable to pass on higher production costs to downstream markets owing to the prolonged demand slump amid an oversupply. The EU Single-Use Plastics Directive, with its 25% PET content requirement, highlights the effectiveness of legal mandates in shifting market preferences towards recycled materials. Without similar mandates in Asia, preferences will tend to lean towards cost-effective virgin PET. Emulating the European model, there is a critical need for 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚 to mandate the use of rPET, 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 and aligning with environmental sustainability goals. Meanwhile, investing in technology and operational efficiencies can mitigate the impact of high feedstock cost and position rPET as a competitive alternative to virgin PET. #bir #bureauofinternationalrecycling #plasticsrecycling #sustainability #asia #report #pricing

  • Throwback to the visit of Recycling International

View profile for Max M. Craipeau ♻️, graphic

CEO at GREENCORE | BIR Chairman | Certified Ocean Bound Plastics Recycler | Saving the ocean from plastic waste

Thanks Recycling International 🇳🇱 ♻ for visiting and featuring us in your latest edition. 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐓𝐇: 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 1,000 𝐒𝐪𝐦 𝐭𝐨 9,000 𝐒𝐪𝐦 “After a humble kick-off with one extruder in 2018, Greencore now has four extrusion lines and a fifth unit is on the way, two washing lines, shredders, you name it. Next to the production hall is a huge hall for stock. Greencore has 35 full-time equivalent staff working 24/7 across three shifts, six days a week. Craipeau handles five types of materials, PC, PE, PS, PP, PET. Greencore complies with all the major processing standards, including the Global Recyclers Standard (GRS). The facility in Surabaya has its own lab and R&D. 𝐅𝐔𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐒𝐎 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 With Indonesia confronting a huge plastics pollution problem, chemical recycling will become more important and contribute to the solution, Craipeau believes. 'Chemical recycling is good as it does not compete with mechanical recycling. It's the future for hard-to-recycle, multi-layer household plastics that, sadly, are otherwise dumped or landfilled.' Investments in building chemical recycling capacity are underway. 'We will be seeing major facilities pop up across Indonesia, especially Java,' says Craipeau. Plastic Energy, a chemical recycling company with plants operating for many years in Europe, announced at the recent G20 summit in Bali a joint investment with Exxon Mobil to set up the first chemical recycling facility in Indonesia with the capacity to process 100 000 tonnes of plastics per year. Craipeau: 'They will use hard-to-recycle plastic feedstock diverted from landfill or the environment - that is not competing with mechanical recycling.'" #plastic #recycling #indonesia #greencore #chemicalrecycling #oceanboundplastic #environment #growth
