Vietnam Hanoi metro Line 3 moves forward with SYSTRA: On 8 Aug 2024, the overhead section of Hanoi metro Line 3 was officially inaugurated, marking the culmination of a long-term project for SYSTRA's teams. This event took place one week after the launch of the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) to dig the underground section of Line 3.  Line 3 welcomed its first passengers on 8 Aug 2024. Named the "Temple of Literature Line", a new 8.5 km link in the heart of Hanoi, built entirely on a viaduct, stretches from Nhổn to Hanoi City Centre, in Cầu Giấy. This new line serves almost 20% of Hanoi's inhabitants across 6 districts.   “The inauguration of Line 3 is a source of great pride for all the SYSTRA teams who have been working on this project since 2007. SYSTRA is responsible for a particularly wide range of tasks, acting as Project Implementation Consultant as well as engineering office for all the civil engineering and systems work packages, and providing operational support as Shadow operator to train the staff on this new line. SYSTRA is honoured by the trust of client, Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB)”.  Frédéric Dufour, Senior Vice President, SYSTRA Asia A tunnel to Hanoi Central Station:   On 30 July 2024, the Line 3 construction teams launched their first TBM to start building the tunnels to Hanoi station, the capital's main multimodal hub. Here, Line 3 will link up with Line 1 and service scheduled to begin in 2027. The launch of this TBM, named Thần Tốc & Táo Bạo*, took place in the presence of the MRB. This machine will be used to dig the underground extension of Line 3, which will be built in two separate tunnels due to the dense and fragile urban environment above ground. SYSTRA was represented at the ceremony by James Weir, Contract & Claims Manager. Mr. Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Director of the MRB, praised SYSTRA's contribution in his keynote speech. "SYSTRA played a key role in preparing the launch of the first TBM and the full construction of the elevated section, which has been put into operation this morning. Today, we are paving the way for greater connectivity and proximity for the people of Hanoi. As engineering consultants, we are proud to be advancing this project for the people of Hanoi every day. As Project Director, I would like to thank all the local and international Systra experts for all the works performed during the past years to overcome all the difficulties which have allowed to put successfully under operation the elevated section today.” Alain BECHEREAU, Project Director, SYSTRA Vietnam As Systra, we have full confidence to move the World!

Today July 30th, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board officially started drilling the tunnel using a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) for the underground section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station project in the Capital of Vietnam. SYSTRA are providing services as the Project Implementation Consultant for both the elevated section of 8 stations and a depot which will go into revenue service imminently, as well as for the underground section of the remaining four stations of Line 3, which require twin bored tunnels to overcome construction constraints in a congested urban environment in the center of Hanoi. SYSTRA are also acting as the ‘Engineer’ for all work packages on the Hanoi Metro Line 3 Project both Civil and Systems as well as providing shadow operator support and first year assistance to the Operator for the Operational phase. Representatives of SYSTRA’s Client, Mr. Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Railway Management Board, said that the groundbreaking of the tunnel using a TBM is an important milestone for the underground section of the Hanoi Urban Railway Pilot Project, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station section, demonstrating the determination and efforts of all parties involved in creating a modern, safe and efficient public transport system in the capital. The overall construction progress of the CP03 underground Civil package for Stations and Tunnels has reached 43.4%. The first tunnel boring machine will start drilling the tunnel from station S9 on July 30. After running the first 240m, the initial drive, the tunnel boring machine will safely accelerate to a standard speed to reach station S10 in January 2025 and continue to drill to station Station 12 in October 2025, followed by TBM 2 shortly after. There are currently 6 buildings on the entire route that must be demolished by the Contractor JV Hyundai Engineering & Construction of Korea and their Partner tunnelling experts Ghella S.p.A of Italy, as well as 42 buildings that must be temporarily evacuated whilst the TBM passes underneath. Once tunnelling is completed and the TBMs are dismantled this will allow the System Contract packages access to undertake the works in the tunnels and station platform areas. SYSTRA Engineering teams have been instrumental in ensuring readiness for the TBM Launch and will continue to monitor progress, with inspection and engineering teams on site at all times to ensure a safe and faultless tunnel drive. At SYSTRA, Confidence Moves the World!

This weekend, Sat 13 April 2024, instead of our normal outing activities, Systra MVA staff visited the Elderly Centre to interact with the elderly community at Tung Tau Estate. Tung Tau Estate (東頭邨) is a public housing estate in the south of Wong Tai Sin, located between San Po Kong and Kowloon City, in Hong Kong and a stone throw from the famous Kowloon Walled City. It was first built in the 1960s as resettlement housing, but has since been redeveloped in 1980s and 1990s. Systra MVA conducted the Tung Tau East and West Traffic Impact Study in the 1990s to support the Redevelopment under the Term Traffic and Environmental Consultancy Services 1999-2002 for Hong Kong Housing Authority. The estate had a population of under 16,000. The elderly (aged 65 or above) account for 25% of total population. Many thanks to the Recreation Club for organizing this very meaningful and Joyful event and extremely grateful to all our volunteering staff, who got up early on a Saturday morning for this exciting visit to participate in group games and socially interact with the energetic and playful elderly friends. Last but not least great appreciation to Caritas Elderly Centre -Tung Tau for hosting this visit, Ray Chan, RC Chairman, Alice Cheung, Jessie Yeung for organizing the Snacks and Drinks. Thank you All!
