Vistra's European Funds Team had a fantastic time at this year’s EXPO REAL (Messe München) in Munich. Leaving the event with renewed optimism and a wealth of insights, here are some of our key takeaways: • Logistics continue to be a crucial factor in real estate. • Decarbonisation may have slipped into the background, but it remains a key concern, especially as a cost driver, with ongoing efforts to find solutions. • The shortage of skilled labour, particularly in Germany, poses a major challenge. • The issue of private debt is very present and is also considered to be of great importance in the short term. It was great to meet with so many of our clients and make new connections. Creating time and space for self-reflection and exercise is something I try my best to guard as it helps my mental health. It’s not always easy, particularly working in a global organisation where there’s always some part of the world awake. But it’s a discipline I practice because it helps me feel stronger physically and mentally. I’ve already done my exercise for the day, a short run in the beautiful morning sunshine, and to mark World Mental Health Day I also want to take a moment to reflect on this year’s theme of workplace mental health. At Vistra we describe our culture as being vibrant. It’s what we aspire to for our workplace. It’s the special energy you feel when you walk into one of our offices or speak to our people. But it’s much more than this. For us a vibrant workplace also speaks of diversity. It’d be unrealistic to expect everyone to feel pumped up every day. We all have our ups and downs. And what’s important is that we’re there to look out for each other. How we describe this is ‘Us, not me’. That’s why mental health is part of our everyday conversations. Unconscious bias, anxiety management, burnout prevention, men’s health, and menopause awareness are just some of the topics we’ve tackled. We’re also encouraging our colleagues to get together in wellbeing communities on SPARK. Mental health is key to our collective vibrancy, but it can be complex; some days are just tougher than others. Nurturing a supportive environment that prioritizes mental health, not only drives business progress – but it gives us a sense of purpose and can enhance our lives. That’s why I’ll continue to keep this conversation beyond today – and of course keep exercising and reflecting! I truly believe that a few simple words can make such a difference to a person – so please keep talking and remember to say hello to that person in the lift or in the coffee shop – you may just make their day!
