Social Innovation Inventor Design Competition 2023/24 - Smart Design on Optimising Land Resources- Tokyo Study Tour, Kashiwanoha Smart City in Chiba province🗾 The last stop of our Green Study Tour was Kashiwanoha Smart City, where the core value of the smart city is ‘Co-creation’🤝, and UDCK - Urban Design Centre Kashiwanoha plays an important role in Kashiwanoha's urban development. UDCK acts as the platform of idea exchange and collaboration, bringing politicians👩🏻💼, citizens👭👬, and academics👩🏻🎓 together to create a blueprint🗺️ for Kashiwanoha's development. With a mission to realise “Kashiwanoha International Campus Town Initiative”, UDCK promotes and supports projects in various areas. The main three themes of activities are:. 1. Realising a smart city where state-of-the-art knowledge is applied 2. Promoting high quality urban design 3. Creating a lively community During the site visit, we took a ride in an automated bus 🚌to see the cityscape,🗺️ visited buildings and facilities that support startups🏢, and learnt about the important role of area energy management system⚡ which allows sharing electricity among buildings to minimise the waste of energy and optimise the use of it. Although Kashiwanoha is still in its development stage, the city is green and comfortable, and we all look forward to its future development.🙏🏻 #UDCK #Kashiwanoha #Smartcity #Energymanagement #Bigdataanalysis

Social Innovation Inventor Design Competition 2023/24 - Smart Design on Optimising Land Resources-Visit Tokyo Eco Recycle Co.Ltd♻️, a Japanese Home Appliance Recycling Factory As the competition topic of this year's secondary school group is to design a recycling centre with recyclable material, we hope to provide opportunities for students to learn more about Japan's recycling and sustainable facilities👩🏻🏫. One of our destinations is a visit to the Japanese home appliance recycling plant, Tokyo Eco Recycle Co. Ltd, which is a subsidiary of the Hitachi Group. 🌟 Japan's current ‘Home Appliance Recycling Law’ stipulates that air-conditioners, televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, etc. must be recycled by the retailers or the home appliance recycling centre.👩🏻⚖️ It is mandatory for users to purchase recycling vouchers for the recycling and transportation fee💰, while the manufacturer must also share the burden of the operation of the home appliance recycling plant🏭, which emphasises on the ‘ “User Pay” principle and Corporate Social Responsibility. Whereas Hong Kong has the E-waste collection "WPRS” programme, which covers WEEE from regulated electrical appliances (i.e. air-conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, computers, printers, scanners and monitors). Through the E-waste collection programme, the WEEE will be handed over to the licensed recycling facilities for proper treatment. It helps resolve the land pollution problem in HK in the long run caused by improper treatment and dismantling of WEEE. For more information, please refer to the official website of the“E-waste Collection”「四電一腦」. https://lnkd.in/eDJs8XdS

Social Innovation Inventor Design Competition 2023/24 - Smart Design on Optimising Land Resources- Tokyo Green Study Tour Completed!✈️ This year's champion have returned to HK last week after joining the #WorldGreenOrganisation 's green study tour to Tokyo. 🧳🌸The trip was enlightening and remarkable, as we visited Tokyo Eco Recycle, a home appliance recycling plant owned by Hitachi Group♻️, and Kashiwanoha Smart City developed by Mitsubishi Estate, the city government, and the University of Tokyo.🏫 We visited the buildings and facilities related to the urban planning of the city, and learnt about the differences in the policies of home appliance recycling and urban development between Japan🇯🇵 and Hong Kong🇭🇰. Apart from that, we also had the chance to experience the bustling life of Tokyo, shopping in Shinjuku, eating at a local izakaya and tasting Tokyo's famous food, monjayaki. The next competition is tentatively scheduled for March next year. We will continue arranging a meaningful and eye-opening green study trip for the winning groups next year and look forward to your application!👩🏻💻 Those who are interested in joining the competition, please pay close attention to the news on this page.👀 Social Innovation Inventor Design Competition website: https://lnkd.in/ezakM4Bv
