Apart from #solar energy applications, did you know that cadmium telluride (#CdTe) is also revolutionizing the #medical imaging technology? Read below. Our ultra-high purity cadmium, tellurium, and polycrystalline cadmium telluride are used in the production of single crystal CdTe used in photon counting detection for advanced x-ray medical imaging and CT scans. This compound semiconductor enables the "direct" conversion of x-ray photons into electrical signals, bypassing the first-stage conversion of photons into light through scintillators in conventional x-ray detectors. This allows higher spatial resolution, producing contrast-rich images, which can even be achieved at lower dose administration. CdTe photon-counting detectors are also used in food and battery inspection.
