  • [Spreading Joy and Care During the Mid-Autumn Celebration] As the Mid-Autumn Festival is round the corner, we at Towngas Smart Energy are proud to highlight our parent company, Towngas, and its commitment to the community through the “Mooncakes for the Community” programme, which began in 2001. Over the past two decades, Towngas has distributed over 3.61 million mooncakes through this initiative, benefiting the elderly and underprivileged families in Hong Kong.   The programme makes a meaningful impact by distributing mooncakes to those in need. Recently, Towngas’ Volunteer Service Team participated in the “Passing on Love in Sham Shui Po” programme, delivering care packages to vulnerable seniors in Shek Kip Mei Estate. This year, we have collaborated with Legislative Council members, District Council members, charities, and community organisations to distribute over 320,000 mooncakes, benefiting more than 150 charitable organisations.   In this festive season, families gather to celebrate. Many come together to share mooncakes and enjoy the rich flavors of Chinese cuisine, often enhanced by flame cooking. It’s important to ensure a safe cooking environment. Here are some tips:   -         Watch for Color Changes: Pay attention to the color and condition of the flames. When red or yellow flames appear, it may indicate insufficient air intake leading to incomplete combustion. It is advisable to contact a professional for assistance.   -         Be Alert for Gas Leaks: If you smell an unusual odor, this may signal a gas leak. In case of suspected gas leak, open windows and shut off gas meter valve. Do not operate any electric appliances or switches. Do not use any phones on site. Seek professional help with a phone outside the premises is strongly advised.   -         Ventilation is Key: Open windows and turn on the ventilation system before operating the appliance. After cooking, ensure that all knobs are turned to the off position.   Wishing everyone a joyful and safe Mid-Autumn Festival filled with good food and cherished moments.   #Towngas #TowngasSmartEnergy #MidAutumnFestival #Community #SafetyFirst

  • [Celebrating Biodiversity with Family Workshops and Wildlife Photography] At Towngas Smart Energy, we believe preserving the environment requires collective action. That is why we actively engage the public to spread knowledge about the natural world and inspire eco-conscious behaviour. This past National Ecology Day (15 August), The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and Towngas Smart Energy teamed up with several NGOs, including the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK), The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS), and The Nature Conservancy Hong Kong (TNC HK), to host a series of public workshops that invited children and adults to discover the marvels of nature and biodiversity. Besides creating their own animal-themed craft, we were delighted to find participants fully engaged in introductions about the species and the ecosystems of which they form an integral part. Separately, we hosted a prize presentation ceremony for the 23 winners who joined our “Capturing Nature's Masterpieces: Wildlife Photography Contest”, whose works had been selected from over 1,000 entries capturing life in the air, on land, and in the sea within the Greater China region by adults or youth between the age of 12 and 17. We also invited local wildlife photographer James Kwok to give winners an exclusive master class to help them further their exploration of wildlife with due respect to nature. We hope these will inspire more people to take action and create a brighter future for all species on planet Earth. #Towngas #TowngasSmartEnergy #Nature #Climate #Biodiversity #Education

  • [First sulphur-based flow battery energy storage system launched] Demonstrating our commitment to innovation, our parent company The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has partnered with local energy storage startup Luquos Energy to launch the first project using a cutting-edge sulphur-based flow battery energy storage system in Shenzhen. Installed at an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, this system is expected to reduce electricity costs by nearly 70% during peak usage hours while also alleviating strain on the power grid. The LEAPLUG storage system, housed in a small container at the Shajing EV charging station, utilises a sulphur-based flow battery and energy conversion technology to provide power support for 30 charging points. As the first application demonstration project, the 20 kilowatt-hour LEAPLUG system strategically charges and stores electricity during off-peak, low-cost hours, then discharges that reserve during high-demand, peak-rate periods. This unique approach helps save nearly 70% on electricity costs. As countries worldwide continue to diversify their energy sources, there is a growing need for environmentally friendly, safe and affordable energy storage solutions. We are excited about the potential of this initial project with Luquos Energy, leveraging sulphur-based flow battery technology to deliver a safer, more stable and cost-effective power supply for charging stations. This represents an important step forward, with opportunities for further applications across Towngas Group’s various scenarios in the future.
