Hello Groundwater Enthusiasts!!!
JOIN US! The UNESCO Groundwater Youth Network is hosting an engaging online side event on Groundwater in Glacier Regions and Youth Participation.
Date: 21st January, 2025.
Time: 16:30-17:30 (UTC).
Glacier regions are crucial freshwater reservoirs pivotal for ecosystems, water availability, and climate resilience. This online side event will explore the linkage between glaciers, groundwater, and permafrost, addressing critical knowledge gaps. The event emphasizes youth engagement in research, policy, and advocacy to protect these fragile ecosystems.
Agenda:
17:30 - 17:33 | Welcome and session overview by Gabriela Calderon (GWYN, Argentina).
17:33 - 17:40 | Opening remarks by Alice Aureli (Governor UNESCO Chair on Sustainability, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain).
17:40 - 17:55 | Key presentation by Lauren Somers (Dalhousie University, Canada) on "High-drogeology: Mountain groundwater under climate change"
17:55 - 18:20 | Roundtable discussion on glacier-groundwater interactions and youth involvement in preservation, moderated by Caio Macedo (GWYN, Brazil), featuring panelists Isabelle W. (Northumbria University, UK), Noelia Sileo (CNEA, Argentina), Lucija Plantak (GWYN, Croatia), Alberto Cruz, Ana paola, a student of Environmental Engineering at the National Agrarian University La Molina, Peru, and vice president of the Glacier Research Circle (CIGLAS, Peru).
