"Make or Break Flexible Work" Stanford University found that remote workers showed a 13% performance boost. Employees reported higher levels of job satisfaction and engagement, especially when they had autonomy. However, some businesses experienced a decline in work quality. IBM reported that high-quality project output were harder to sustain in remote settings due to reduced in-person sessions. Juniors require a feedback to grow. They feel disconnected from learning opportunities that naturally arise in the office. Amazon is ending hybrid working entierly and ordering a full 5 day week in the office. While flexible work offers significant advantages, it also comes with real challenges. Essential Traits for Thriving in Flexible Work Self-Discipline and Accountability Without the typical in-office supervision, workers must manage their time effectively, stay organized, and remain focused on tasks. Self-discipline ensures that tasks are completed on time and to a high standard. Employees must be responsible for their work, consistently delivering on their promises. Strong Communication Skills In a flexible work environment, communication is often less spontaneous. Employees must possess excellent communication skills. This includes the ability to clearly convey ideas, ask for help when needed, and provide regular updates on their progress. Being proactive in communication helps prevent misunderstandings and keeps team members aligned. Proactive Problem-Solving Without the immediate presence of managers or colleagues, employees must become proactive problem-solvers. Rather than waiting for guidance, they should be capable of identifying potential issues and addressing them independently. This could involve researching solutions, seeking out additional resources, or collaborating with team members to overcome challenges. Time Management Employees must structure their days in a way that maximizes productivity while balancing personal commitments. Being able to prioritize tasks, break down large projects into manageable chunks, and set realistic deadlines are essential skills. Self-Motivation and Initiative Without the external motivation of a structured office environment, employees must find ways to stay driven and productive on their own. Self-motivation often stems from a sense of purpose in one’s work, personal goals, or professional growth ambitions. Emotional Resilience Flexible work can blur the lines between personal and professional life, leading to challenges in managing stress. Emotional resilience—the ability to bounce back from setbacks and maintain a positive attitude despite challenges—is essential. Employees must be able to cope with the isolation of remote work, manage conflicting priorities, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. By fostering these traits, companies can mitigate the productivity declines, ensuring that flexible work environments benefit both the individual and the organization. (Assisted by AI)

The Key to Success Lies in Your Thinking The way you think can shape the course of your life and career. Those with a fixed mindset believe that their abilities are innate and unchangeable. They interpret failure as a sign of their limitations and tend to avoid new challenges. On the other hand, individuals with a growth mindset view failure as part of the learning process, believing that they can improve through effort and experience. Fixed Mindset: Stuck in the Comfort Zone People with a fixed mindset think that their abilities are set in stone and unchangeable. They often say things like, "I’m just not good at this," and shy away from trying something new. This kind of thinking closes the door to growth opportunities and can prevent further career development. Growth Mindset: Turning Failure into Learning In contrast, those with a growth mindset believe their abilities can develop through effort and learning. They don’t fear failure; instead, they see it as a chance to learn and improve. For example, someone who finds public speaking difficult might think, "It’s tough now, but with practice, I can get better." Practical Strategies for Developing a Growth Mindset 1. Embrace the Power of "Yet" A key aspect of a growth mindset lies in the word "yet." When you haven’t mastered something, instead of saying, "I can’t do this," say, "I can’t do this yet." By reminding yourself that you’re still in the process of learning, you’ll find the perseverance to keep working toward your goal. The important thing is to accept imperfection as part of the process and trust that, over time, you’ll improve. 2. Failure is Part of Growth People with a growth mindset see failure as a necessary step toward improvement. Failing doesn’t mean you’re incapable—it’s an opportunity to identify your weaknesses and work on overcoming them. Instead of blaming yourself for failures, think about what lessons you can learn from the experience. Failure isn’t something to fear; rather, it’s a guide for future success. 3. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone and Embrace Challenges To grow, you need to leave your comfort zone. Challenge yourself to tackle areas where you may not feel confident. For example, if public speaking makes you nervous, start by presenting to smaller groups. Over time, gradually take on more difficult challenges, and you’ll discover that your abilities are expanding as you progress. The goal is to keep pushing yourself through continuous challenges to spark growth. 4. Recognize Your Efforts and Celebrate the Process People with a growth mindset focus on the process and the effort, not just the results. Make it a habit to acknowledge and celebrate your small achievements. For instance, if you’ve worked hard to solve a difficult problem, tell yourself, "I did a good job." If you want to build a successful career, adopting a growth mindset is essential. Now is the time to shift your thinking and embrace the journey of growth. (Assisted by OpenAI)

Leadership is not just about holding a title or occupying a position of authority. It's about shouldering the weight of responsibility, both for oneself and those under your guidance. True leaders understand that with authority comes accountability. They recognize that their actions have ripple effects, impacting not just their own lives, but the lives of those they lead. Leadership is about making tough decisions, even when they're unpopular, and owning the consequences, whether they be successes or failures. Here's why leaders are indispensable to the success of both teams and organizations: ✓ Vision and Direction: Leaders provide a clear vision and direction for their teams, setting the course for success. ✓ Inspiration and Motivation: By fostering a culture of enthusiasm, passion, and dedication, they encourage individuals to unleash their full potential and achieve outstanding results. ✓ Effective Communication: Communication lies at the heart of leadership. Leaders excel at communicating expectations, providing feedback, and fostering open dialogue within the team. ✓ Empowerment and Development: Leaders empower their team members by delegating responsibilities, fostering autonomy, and promoting continuous learning and development. ✓ Problem Solving and Decision Making: In times of challenge or uncertainty, leaders step up to the plate, offering solutions, making tough decisions, and navigating the team through obstacles. Ways to Work Better (a Korean Unicorn company) 1. 9:01 is NOT 9:00 a.m. We strive for a culture of autonomy based on discipline. Freedom is allowing you to act as you wish without limitations or constraints. Discipline sets standards of conduct required to ensure order and functioning systems. Autonomy is a reliance on discipline and self-control to do what is expected of you without being swayed by your desires. By exercising discipline in even small and seemingly trivial matters, we build a culture of autonomy in which we can work freely within the bounds of our own principles and rules. 2. Report only based on facts. Only fact-based information can lead to good decision-making. We should prevent bias among decision-makers by reporting based only on the facts. Personal opinions should be expressed separately, clearly indicating that they are comments. “Report what you saw as you saw it and what you heard as you heard it. Distinguish between what you saw and what you heard, and never speak of things you have neither seen nor heard.” - Admiral Yi Sun-sin 3. When you work, consider the purpose, period, and outcome, as well as who you are working with. When we work, we should always keep in mind the purpose of what we are doing. It is important to remind ourselves periodically of this purpose while the work is still ongoing. We should also be mindful of deadlines and use our time wisely. Progress should be checked to see whether outcomes align to initial expectations and shared with other stakeholders before the work is completed. When sharing this information, we should not just pass on the results but also make sure they are clearly understood. 4. The responsibility lies with the person who made the decision, not the one who executed it. The risks of failure are often high in the work we do. What matters is that we keep learning from our failures and improve our organization and processes. Decision-makers should pay close attention and support those executing the decisions for successful outcomes. In case of failure, they should encourage those implementing to persevere, and if the failure is a result of their poor decision-making, they should own up to their mistake. On the other hand, if the failure is due to a lack of good faith or unethical conduct on the part of those executing, we must hold them strictly accountable. 5. Lead, follow, or get out of the way! Our success depends as much on followership as on leadership. There are no perfect decisions. However, it is better to act on imperfect decisions than to do nothing. When giving feedback, followers should focus on the project's success and customers' interests rather than their personal convenience and interests. If you find yourself becoming cynical or watching from the sidelines rather than engaging in constructive criticism or being part of the discussion, it is time for you to leave the company for both yourself and your colleagues.
