💡 Although the percentage of women in ASEAN’s energy sector workforce still sits at 8%, the region has seen many encouraging developments through more women having stepped into impactful leadership positions. ASEAN Member States (AMS) have appointed women to key energy leadership roles, including Permanent Secretary (Energy), Director General, and Deputy Secretary-General positions. Moreover, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), as the Centre of ASEAN’s energy transition, has also made positive strides through appointing its first female project manager of the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project and welcoming its first female manager of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy (SRE) Department. This blog, authored by Aldilla Noor Rakhiemah and Beni Suryadi, highlights why gender-inclusive leadership is crucial for ASEAN’s sustainable energy transition, and why empowering more women leaders is a priority both for ASEAN and at ACE to achieve the region’s long-term energy goals. 💡 On perspective this week! 🗞 Capturing Renewable Energy Certificate Demand in ASEAN ✍ Monika Merdekawati, Veronica Ayu Pangestika Singapore imports of renewable electricity from Lao PDR in 2022 marked a milestone in Southeast Asia's energy landscape, highlighting the region's growing cross-border electricity trade. Beyond securing infrastructure for grid development, ASEAN member states are exploring ways to maximise the economic benefits of this trade. One promising avenue lies in the adoption of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). This Op-Ed takes a bird-eye view of RECs demand driver in ASEAN, and identifies low-hanging fruit for strengthening regional cooperation in establishing a robust and high-quality cross-border REC market. 💡 Out now: Future of the Grid: Strengthening ASEAN's Grid Power Quality by Harnessing Stability with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Synchrophasors In recent years, ASEAN's power grid landscape has been evolving. To enhance grid reliability, the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), such as rooftop solar photovoltaics (PV) systems and battery energy storage, along with synchrophasors and phasor measurement units (PMUs), provides real-time monitoring and grid flexibility. These technologies offer insights into ASEAN's power systems, improving power quality by enhancing stability and resilience. This technical report, as part of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) partnership, aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of power quality challenges in an evolving grid landscape in the region. It serves as a strategic resources to strengthen ASEAN's grid reliability, power quality management, and operational resilience for the region. 🔗 To find out more: https://lnkd.in/geSPwTcg ✍ ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)

💡 Did you know that the Philippines placed 25th in the 2024 Global Gender Gap Index? Since 1975, the establishment of the Philippines’ Commission on Women (PCW) has played a pivotal role in mainstreaming gender equality in the country. Existing national gender policies such as the Magna Carta of Women, Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Plan (GEWE), and the Gender and Development Strategic Plan (GAD-SP) have strengthened women representation in the workforce. The energy sector in particular has seen the positive impact of these policies, with women accounting for more than 50% of positions across institutions like the Department of Energy (DOE) Science and Technology, National Electrification Agency, and PSALM Corporation. In this blog by Nathania Azalia, ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) Research Intern, we explore how gender-inclusive policies have strengthened women's representation and what ASEAN can learn from the Philippines' progress to drive a more gender-inclusive energy landscape. 🔗 Read more: go.aseanenergy.org/ACEBlog https://lnkd.in/g4vmkKAm #ASEAN #ACCEPTII #Gender #Energy #IWD2025 #Blog
