For the past year, Buro Happold Associate MEP engineer William Holley CEng MCIBSE has been exploring the field of heat pump technology around the world thanks to winning the prestigious Ken Dale Travel Bursary. The bursary, granted by CIBSE every year, is instrumental in providing young professionals with the opportunity to explore innovative solutions and connect with global industry leaders. It enables them to undertake research in their field of work for the benefit the engineering profession. Will, who is based at our office in Hamburg, has travelled to Finland, China and Japan to investigate the integration of heat pump technology into the built environment. He aims to disseminate his insights and establish design guidance to aid engineers to effectively integrate heat pumps into their projects. The report’s findings will be published in October this year. He says his journey has reignited his passion for engineering and equipped him with the skills to propose groundbreaking solutions.
