Green spaces—like parks, vertical gardens, and urban farms—not only enhance the beauty of our cities but also provide essential benefits for our health and well-being. By incorporating nature into urban planning, we can combat air pollution, reduce urban heat, and mitigate climate change impacts. Studies show that green spaces can lower stress levels, improve mental health, and promote physical activity. Plus, initiatives like vertical gardens and urban agriculture are transforming our cities into self-sustaining ecosystems, allowing us to grow fresh vegetables right where we live! The Netherlands is committed to enhancing biodiversity through its Nature Inclusivity Agenda 2.0, which emphasises the integration of natural elements in urban development. The Dutch government promote collaboration between various sectors, aiming to create resilient cities that support diverse ecosystems while prioritizing the health and well-being of their residents. By leading international efforts to promote sustainable practices, we are paving the way for a greener future where urban biodiversity thrives. 📰 International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists 📰 📅 November 2, 2024 Today, we stand with journalists worldwide who risk everything to bring us the truth. Unfortunately, too many face violence and threats while their attackers go unpunished, putting press freedom in danger. 🕊️ This year’s theme, "Protecting the Fourth Estate: Ensuring Justice for Journalists," is a powerful reminder that when we protect journalists, we protect democracy. No one should live in fear for exposing the truth. 📣 The Dutch Embassy proudly support press freedom and are committed to creating a safer environment for journalists. Through partnerships with civil society, we offer digital security training and work with law enforcement to strengthen press protections in Indonesia, the Netherlands and everywhere in the world. Our Erasmus Huis recently held the World Photo Exhibition 2024 in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, showcasing the vital role of journalism in society. Training Program for Museum Curators 🖼️ On Monday, Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon officially kicked off a one-week training program for museum curators at the Museum Nasional Visible Storage, TMII. This program, part of a multi-year collaboration between Indonesia and the Netherlands, is a joint effort by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture, the Dutch Embassy, the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency, and the Reinwardt Academy. Minister Fadli shared his excitement about this great partnership. Dutch Ambassador Marc Gerritsen encouraged the participants and lecturers to embrace the opportunity to learn from each other via a video message. On behalf of the Dutch Embassy Björn Duys in his role as manager Erasmus Huis attended the opening. Let’s celebrate this cross-cultural exchange in heritage preservation! 🤝

Today marks a historic new chapter for the Republic of Indonesia, with the inauguration of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the President and Vice President of Indonesia. 🇮🇩 We also would like to express our gratitude to former president Joko Widodo for his excellent leadership and vision. Tthe Netherlands and ASEAN discussed potential collaboration on cybersecurity. 🤝 ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn met the Dutch Ambassador-at-large for cybersecurity Ernst Noorman to discuss the collaboration potential for capacity-building projects on cybersecurity within the framework of the ASEAN-Netherlands Development Partnership. The ASEAN Cyber Capacity Needs Assessment was also launched during the Singapore International Cyber Week. Head of Cyber Capacity Building from the Netherlands Cyber Security Center Danny Jaspers and Matt Loong from KPMG Singapore presented the report during the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise Southeast Asia Regional Meeting, offering insights into the cyber resilience of ASEAN and what is needed to strengthen capacity. #cybersecurity #NLASEAN

The first-ever International Dutch Language Competition has concluded successfully in Leiden, the Netherlands! 🎉 🇮🇩🇳🇱 We are proud of Indonesian finalist Lessyina Pirade from the Dutch Study Program at Universitas Indonesia, who put on a wonderful performance during the competition final. She competed against students from China, France and competition winner from South Africa Ariana Eybers. We also would like to thank Indonesia’s Education and Culture Attaché Agus Setiabudi for his amazing support. Beyond the competition, the program has offered these students invaluable experiences, from attending lectures at Leiden University to exploring Dutch cities and engaging in insightful discussions with representatives of Taalunie, IVN and the Netherlands’ Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. This inspiring program was initiated by the Education and Science Attaché Network of the Netherlands. 👩🏻🏫 Congratulations to all finalists! You are the ambassadors of the Dutch language and culture, fostering stronger ties between the Netherlands and your home countries. Nogmaals gefeliciteerd! 🏆

Ambassador-designate Marc Gerritsen joined the reopening of the National Museum of Indonesia "Reimaging Cultural Heritage". 🏛️ ✨ One highlight of the opening is the "Repatriasi" Exhibition. Objects from the Puputan Badung Collection and Hindu-Buddhist sculptures (Bhairava, Nandi, Ganesha and Brahma) are presented as returned cultural objects. Additionally, the earlier returned items from Lombok treasure and Diponegoro collection are also on display. The exhibition is open for public until December 31, 2024. 🗓️ We are looking forward to expanding our collaboration with Indonesia in the fields of research, presentation and knowledge exchanges between museums. We are also committed to assisting Indonesia in extracting information from cultural objects to generate knowledge. Today our Ambassador-designate Marc Gerritsen met Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono. 🇳🇱🇮🇩 They had a fruitful discussion on strengthening the Netherlands and Indonesia cooperation in finance, including customs, taxes, and climate finance. The conversation also covered Indonesia's economic development, the Netherlands' position as the largest European investor in Indonesia, and opportunities to further expand Dutch presence. 🫱🏽🫲🏼 Additionally, they explored collaboration with within the framework of Indonesia's OECD accession process. 🌏

Happy Kinderboekenweek 2024! 👧🏻👦🏻📖 The Dutch Children’s Book Week (Kinderboekenweek) 2024 is running from October 2nd to 13th. This year’s theme is ‘Lekker eigenwijs’ (delightfully stubborn), and young readers are invited to read books like “Het logboek van Billy Donderbus”, “Rosie en Moussa voor altijd” and “Het eigenwijze huisdierenboek”. 📚 On October 4, the Netherlands Embassy welcomed students from NAS (Nord Anglia School Jakarta) to celebrate Kinderboekenweek at the Erasmus Huis. Ambassador-designate Marc Gerritsen read aloud a children’s book and accompanied by Education and Science Attaché Yvonne Klerks, presented the book “Schatpakkers” to the children as the kinderboekenweekgeschenk (gift), a tradition in the Netherlands during the kinderboekenweek. 🇳🇱 The students also saw a theater performance “PRRRT PRRRT FLAP FLAP” by Maas Theater en Dans at the auditorium of Erasmus Huis, which told a story about the joy of waiting and finding happiness within themselves. The kinderboekenweek celebration concluded with Dutch snacks and outdoor games. 🎭🧇♟️
