✨ Exciting highlights from the ASEAN Carbon Forum 2024 last week! ✨ Fairatmos had the privilege of participating in ASEAN Carbon Forum 2024, hosted by the Malaysia Forest Fund and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Sustainability. Here are some key takeaways from the event: 1. Malaysia's Progress: The introduction of a carbon pricing mechanism, which includes a carbon tax and evolving methodologies for Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). Malaysia is also advancing the establishment of a specialized Forest Carbon Offset (FCO) Methodology, alongside new MRV guidelines to ensure transparency. 2. Regional Collaboration: ASEAN nations are working to establish national carbon standards that address unique local conditions, such as baselines and additionality, areas that global standards may not fully cover. 3. ASEAN Common Carbon Framework: This initiative, led by organizations like the Malaysia Carbon Market Association (MCMA), Indonesia Carbon Trade Association (IDCTA), and ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets (AACM), aims to align national efforts across the region and integrate them into the global market. 4. Market Opportunities: Southeast Asia has some potential to capitalize on the demand generated by CORSIA, with projections indicating a market value of more than $300 million USD over the next five years.
