Two of my favourite professions are colliding in 8 weeks time with International CX Day on the 7th Oct and World Customer Service Week from 7th - 11th Oct 2024. Long before "customer experience" was a thing, there was customer service 🦕 . I find myself often discussing how customer experience (CX) isn't customer service and then going off to explain what CX is, but customer service has been in my veins from a very early age. From being old enough to make coffees for my parents and their friends, to serving at the athletics canteen when they let me. To begging 🙏 for my first job where an organisation that is no longer around put me on as an ice cream server and hot dog maker, being paid off the books and thinking the $3.30/hr wage was the best thing since pre-cut hot dog buns! 🌭 I loved the feeling 💞 that came with being in service. I loved watching people leave fulfilled, come back, allow me to test my memory with what started as remembering their name, then their order, then their kid's names as I would start to build relationships, friendships even. I even reveled in the conflict. Maybe it's being the eldest of six siblings 💪 but I grew decidedly stronger in my ability to resolve conflict, quickly, sincerely and calmly... except maybe the two times I had paint cans thrown at me 🤔 To this day, being of service is in my blood. I was shopping at Bunnings 💒 on the weekend and couldn't stand to watch the people next to me try to guess which varnish they needed, and refusing to wait at the paint desk to find out, I kindly offered to help (my nickname is the 'Paint Expert'). They got the right product and there it was, that warming sensation of knowing the customer got what they needed and more. 💚 So, what's this biopic tale got to do with #customerserviceweek you ask? Well, we're eight weeks away from the week in which you as an organisation get to recognise those who are of service to your customers. You get the opportunity to intrinsically understand what customer service looks and feels like for them. So between now and the next eight weeks, I am going to be dropping some insights, some tips, some things to consider leading up to Customer Service Week 2024. 🤳 With eight weeks to go, I find it fascinating that with the move to #AI and chatbots, that 78% of us still end up needing to be put through to a support agent/ team member. 😩 I know the tech is still developing but with that in mind, this year's #CSW theme is 'Above & Beyond'. So, I ask you, business leaders, supporters, brains trust, experts in your field. How do we go above and beyond in this customer service situation?
