A Warm Welcome to Our Newest MTU Intake. We were delighted to recently meet with our latest group of MTU students on the Bishopstown campus in Cork. This marks our fourth intake as the programme continues to grow stronger each year. Thank you to Dr Tim Crowley , Programme Director for the BSc in Global Business & Pilot Studies at MTU for the gracious reception and continued support. This cohort of 21 students has embarked on the first year of their four-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Global Business and Pilot Studies. Throughout the year, they will dive into engaging modules such as Creativity, Innovation, and Teamwork, as well as Global Business and Marketing, among many others. Next June, the students will join AFTA for 18 months of commercial pilot training before completing their final year of studies online. In 2021, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) conducted a global survey that revealed women made up just 4% of pilots worldwide. Notably, 38% of our latest MTU cohort are female, defying the industry trend and setting a positive example to inspire more women to pursue careers in aviation. We wish these students every success in their studies and look forward to welcoming them to AFTA next June. Interested in Joining Us? If you're considering enrolling in this programme next year, we will be attending several events with our MTU graduates to provide more information about the course and application process. Here are some of the upcoming events AFTA will be attending: Christians Brothers College Cork 24th of October 3-5pm. • Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training is compulsory for all commercial student pilots and we are delighted to now also offer this course from our Waterford Airport Base. AFTAs Advanced UPRT instructor, Alan Murphy, an experienced instructor and aerobatic pilot with over 20 years of aviation expertise in both competition and air displays, will be leading this training at our Waterford Airport base. He will be facilitating instruction for both modular and integrated students. AUPRT training consists of 5 hours of theoretical instruction and at least 3 hours of dual flight instruction in an aeroplane, with the aim to enhance the student’s resilience to the psychological and physiological aspects associated with upset conditions. The first lesson is using a Cessna 172 G1000 with an angle of attack sensor and advanced next generation autopilot. You then move into the T67 Slingsby for your second lesson and our final lesson is done in a Cessna 172 G1000 or a T67 Slingsby . Please email enquiries@afta.ie to book your course.
