Please find some strategies below for talking to children about difficult deaths, particularly those that may be mentioned widely in the media. Your child may be trying to make sense of this information by themselves and may feel worried or confused. You can help in the following ways: ▶ Keep calm ▶ Ask your child what they have heard ▶ Check what support they need ▶ Create a calm environment ▶ Keep to the same routines ▶ Answer questions honestly https://lnkd.in/esPdaBpE #BecauseChildhoodLastsALifetime

A MASSIVE thank you to the very enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers from Virgin Media Ireland Limerick who gave up their precious time to paint and redesign the bathroom and outside cabin in our Southill Limerick Service over the last 2 weeks, as well as tidy up the garden area. Despite the poor weather conditions they were determined to see the tasks through 💪 The children love the new sea theme in the bathroom, and the trauma informed colours are both warm and welcoming for all the local children and families who regularly visit our Service. We appreciate your continued support of Barnardos. 💚

“Children and young people tell us that aspects of AI are useful and fun. However, they also have concerns about how AI can be used to manipulate them and to invade their privacy.” Niamh McLoughlin, Barnardos Online Safety Programme Co-ordinator Barnardos Online Safety Programme has released an in-depth report, Exploring AI (Artificial Intelligence) with Children and Young People; shedding light on children’s knowledge of AI. This initiative engaged with children and young people from 5th class in Primary School all the way up to 3rd year in Secondary School, as well as 101 parents and 63 teachers. Key Findings: 1️⃣ 54% of children and young people want to learn more about AI in school 2️⃣ 93% of parents surveyed said they have concerns about their children using AI 3️⃣ 95% of teachers have not received any training in AI “You don’t know if it’s real or not. People can create pictures and pretend it's them” - 13 year old Barnardos recommends the Government takes the following actions: 1️⃣ Ensure school curriculums include practical lessons on understanding AI 2️⃣ Provide parents with accessible, easy-to-understand resources to help guide their children safely in their engagement with AI 3️⃣ Provide teachers with clear guidelines and practical training to confidently educate students on AI Join us at 10am for our Plugged In Switched Off webinar, where we’re launching our report with some great guest speakers 👇 https://lnkd.in/eBibUgNW #BecauseChildhoodLastsALifetime
