BPCI’s Learning and Development Forum will gather in Ibec Cork for its inaugural meeting on 📅 27 February from 10.30am – 2pm. 💡 The purpose of the Learning & Development Forum is to serve as a collaborative forum for L&D professionals and organizations within the industry to promote learning, talent development, and to facilitate networking and the sharing of knowledge and industry best practice. #Manufacturing plays a critical role in the Irish #economy, employing a significant portion of the #workforce and contributing 44%, over €10 billion, of corporation tax #revenue. With the rapid evolution of new #technologies, the sector is undergoing significant change, and it needs to adapt to these developments. #Ireland is a leader in #pharmaceutical #innovation, and MSD Ireland has played a vital role in the sector for over 50 years, with the company employing more than 3,000 people across seven sites. The company utilises advanced technologies such as AI-powered tools, energy-saving systems, and waste management programmes to support both #digital innovation and #sustainability goals to achieve a long-lasting impact, reinforcing MSD's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality across all operations by 2025. 👏 BioPharmaChem Ireland is encouraged to see the inclusion of a new National Life Science Strategy for Ireland in the recently launched Programme for Government. BPCI, along with our colleagues in Irish Medtech, have been lobbying extensively for a number of years on the need for a coordinated and coherent strategy for life sciences.   This is a positive step towards consolidating Ireland’s strengths as a global leader in #health #innovation by addressing industry needs, fostering #collaboration, and unlocking future opportunities that will benefit the #economy, #workforce, and #patients worldwide.   As an industry, we look forward to being part of this important conversation and constructively engaging with partners in Government to realise this vision.   Speaking about the content of the Programme for Government, Ibec Head of Sectors, and Director at BioPharmaChem Ireland, Dr Sinead Keogh said:   “The #biopharmachem sectors directly employ 50,000 people with a further 21,000 people expected over the next three years. To sustain our hard-won #competitiveness, we must ensure collaboration across government, industry, and research to deliver the right policies and foster a business environment that empowers cutting-edge innovation.   “The National Life Sciences Strategy will help ensure coordination and prioritisation of state resources as well as fit for purpose regulation. 🌍 Last Monday on behalf of BioPharmaChem Ireland we hosted the first of our Webinars on Sustainable Standards in #Biopharma 👨🔬 Our topic was My Green Lab Certification and we were joined by over 100 BioPharmaChem Ireland members from 35 organisations. My Green Lab Certification is considered the gold standard for #laboratory #sustainability best practices around the world.    We were delighted to have a variety of speakers ✅ Stephanie Millar  joined us all the way from Florida to present the certification process for My Green Lab ✅ Roisin O'Sullivan outlined the journey of Astellas Pharma to certification. ✅ Deborah Gardner gave us a great account of the path to certification of Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AstraZeneca ) 🙏 All the  talks were very engaging and thought provoking and have sparked a lot of interest in our members. In BPCI, we believe sharing programs like this will help embed #sustainable practice into all laboratories in the country. Ibec, has just launched its 2024 Manufacturing in Ireland Report, “Facing Forward: Manufacturing Confidence Amidst Evolving Challenges" at its Cork office. Manufacturing plays a critical role in the Irish economy, employing a significant portion of the workforce and contributing 44%, over €10 billion, of corporation tax revenue. With the rapid evolution of new technologies, the sector is undergoing significant change, and it needs to adapt to these developments The report reveals confidence among manufacturers, with approximately 70% expressing a positive outlook. However, challenges persist, particularly rising operational costs related to wages, raw materials, and energy. Despite these hurdles, many manufacturers expect improvements in productivity and profitability.
