I am immensely proud of the BT Young Scientist Business Bootcamp initiative created in BT Ireland in 2009 and in collaboration with Nova UCD since 2013. This program was designed to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and the business world. Our goal is to equip young scientists with the entrepreneurial skills needed to transform their ground-breaking ideas into viable business ventures. We recognised the need to support young innovators beyond the laboratory. By providing them with commercialisation skills, we aim to foster a new generation of scientists who can bring their innovations to market successfully. Why BT Young Scientist Business Bootcamp?: Skills Development: Participants gain invaluable insights into technology commercialisation and entrepreneurship through hands-on workshops and expert presentations. Networking Opportunities: The Bootcamp offers a unique platform for students to connect with industry leaders, mentors, and peers, building a network that supports their future endeavours. Real-World Experience: Students experience the practical aspects of turning a scientific idea into a business, preparing them for real-world challenges. Career Advancement: The skills and connections gained during the Bootcamp open doors to new career opportunities and pathways. The experience of working as part of the team at BT Young Scientist Business Bootcamp empowers young innovators to make a real impact in the world of science and business. As a judge at the Bootcamp, I’m continually inspired by the creativity and ingenuity of these young innovators. Their ability to transform scientific concepts into viable business solutions is truly remarkable. I’m excited to see the continued success and growth of the Bootcamp participants as they lead the way in innovation and entrepreneurship. This reaffirms my belief in a bright future for science and innovation. @BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) @JohnLoftus @NovaUCD @MariCahalane #BTYoungScientist #BusinessBootcamp #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #FutureLeaders

We've just wrapped up a colleague masterclass on what is such an important subject, and was sadly kept in the taboo category for far too long. The menopause: * By 2030, there will be 1.1 billion women with menopause in the world * 85% of women will have some symptoms, and on average for 7.5 years * 50% of the population will go through it, the other 50% may be impacted by it * 34% of women wanted to give up work, and 7% gave up work, according to a survey of 3K women by Menopause Hub As businesses, it's so important to be aware, informed, understanding, empathetic, know how to provide reasonable accommodations. Our colleagues, customers, suppliers, families and friends will go through this natural ageing process that can have huge implications for quality of life, economic impact, careers, and social relationships. Great 2 days sessions with my team in Ireland. We also have hosted a coffee morning and bake sale in aid of the Irish Cancer Society in our Dublin office. Aim was to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society and to promote awareness and participation in the BT Shop for Change programme which will culminate with our store takeover on November 14th. We have managed to raise €700 and accepted 20 Bags of clothes in donations for BT Shop for Change. Our team in Ireland is delivering BT Shop For Change, a responsible business initiative to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The team does this in two ways – collecting bags and boxes of items that can be resold in charity shops across the country, and by taking over the charity shops for a day to help drive sales. The funds raised are used to pay for night nurses and services for individuals unfortunately diagnosed with cancer. In addition, we are reducing the volume of clothes and goods going to landfill, and stocking charity shops to assist those facing financial hardships. Great values and great initiative !!
