As Farm Safety Week begins, Carbery Group would like to emphasise the importance of safety on our farms and in our farming community. Agriculture is the backbone of our local economies, providing the food, fuel and fibre that keeps us going. It is also one of the most hazardous industries to work in. Farm Safety Week is an opportunity for us to reflect on the practices that keep us safe and to commit to continuous improvement in our work environments. Whether you're operating heavy machinery, handling livestock, or working long hours in the field, safety should always be our top priority. Here are a few key reminders to keep in mind: - Stay Alert: Fatigue can lead to accidents. Ensure you get adequate rest and take breaks during long working hours. - Use Proper Equipment: Always use the right tools and machinery for the job, and ensure they are in good working condition. - Be Aware of Surroundings: Stay aware of your environment and the potential hazards that come with it, from chemical exposure to unpredictable weather conditions. - Education and Training: Stay informed about the latest safety protocols and participate in regular training sessions. - Mental Health: Managing your mental health falls hand-in-hand with physical safety in farming. Don’t hesitate to seek support if you feel overwhelmed. Let’s work together to create a safer farming environment. Share your safety tips, watch out for one another, and make safety a habit, not just a priority. #FarmSafetyWeek

Happy International Day of Co-operatives! 🤝 Carbery Group has a rich co-operative heritage, dating back to our founding by four West Cork dairy co-operatives and Express Dairies, UK in 1965. Since then, we have continued to expand and grow, taking market leading positions in dairy, ingredients and flavours. Today, we are 100% owned by four Irish milk co-operatives based in West Cork: Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh and Lisavaird Co-ops. These co-ops are, in turn, wholly owned by their farmer shareholders, many of whom supply milk to our factory, and for whom we create new markets. Well done to the students of Ballymoney National School who decided to make a community leaflet to help aid newcomers to Ballineen to navigate the services available to them and to encourage villagers to explore their local resources. They particularly wanted them to be able to live sustainably so included information about bus services, local recycling centres, local library services and more. Carbery was delighted to contribute in a small way to this great project and all the leaflets were hand delivered by students. Great job 5th and 6th class! This project was part of 'Design for Change' which is the primary section of the Young Social Innovators Programme. Some of the class with members of our Sustainability are team pictured below.

We were really pleased with the large turnout and the positive engagement from farmers and panellists at our Slurry Solutions event in Rosscarbery this week. Opening the event Enda Buckley said "We know that there is a will to do the right thing when it comes to water quality and managing slurry, and our farmer shareholders are looking for guidance on how best to do this. We wanted to bring this event together to connect farmers with the companies who can offer solutions, the institutions who can finance them, and the experts who can advise on the best way to achieve improvements." Thanks to everyone who attended and especially to our panelists Ted Massey from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, William Burchill UCC and Pat Tuohy of Teagasc and our facilitator Don Crowley of Teagasc Cork West. We’re pleased to announce a Farm Walk with our Milk Quality Award Winners on Friday 26th July at 11.30 am on the farm of Sean Deasy and Family. An early adopter of new approaches and technology and part of the Carbery Greener Dairy Farms programme, Sean Deasy and Family were the overall winners of the Carbery Milk Quality and Sustainability Awards in 2023. Last year also marked the 100th year of the farm in Timoleague being in the Deasy family. Attendees will gain key insights into sustainability and productivity practices that the Deasy’s have in place, and how this third generation farmer is preparing for the future. We look forward to seeing you there! Teagasc
