Here we go again... Budget 2025. Lot of tax measures mentioned - however for business, the substance was limited. Of the new announcements, these are the noteworthy points from a tax advisers perspective: 📌 Agriculture Relief (for gift/inheritance tax) – significant change and the person transferring the land will now need to meet conditions, need to be ‘active farmer’ for six years. No further detail here yet 📌 Capital Gains Tax Retirement Relief €10m limit has not been fully eliminated and will still apply where a 12 year (!) holding period has not been met 📌 Gifts to employees – another increase in tax exemption and overall annual limit will now go to €1,500 📌 EIIS relief for investors in SMEs – many early stage companies were awaiting formal confirm that the new 35% relief applies for investors, rather than a 20% rate. Virtual CPD Event 19 September 2024 – North West Society Session Outline Remote working cross border on the island of Ireland - What the employer and employee need to know. Summary The increase in remote working has created opportunities for a mobile workforce working across borders. This session will explore the scale of cross border and frontier working in Ireland and the implications for employers and employees engaged in dual-jurisdiction work. We will examine the challenges and opportunities that arise, focusing on the legal and tax implications of this new landscape. A light will also be shined on often overlooked areas such as healthcare, social welfare and pension access that can be affected. Dr. Seamus McGuinness, ESRI – An overview of the scale of cross border and frontier working in Ireland. One of the authors of an ESRI report studying cross border working on the island of Ireland. Dr. Seamus McGuinness will give an overview on the significant growth of cross border working from 2011 to 2021. He will speak about wage disadvantages for cross border workers and common perceived barriers such as exchange rate risk, cost of commuting and problems accessing financial products such as mortgages.
