Kathleen Daffy & Geraldine White were delighted to facilitate an information stand at the Health & Wellbeing Age Expo Seminar in Ennis, Co. Clare, on 3rd October last. They also delivered a presentation on understanding hearing loss and how Chime can help in a breakout room during the seminar. These seminars not only provide an opportunity for people to get information from Chime but also act as such a fantastic way for other agencies to interact with each other to build on our inter-agency work and discover more about how we can support our clients as a multi-disciplinary team. #Chime #Chime60 #HealthandWellbeing

About us
For over fifty years, we have championed for equal rights, greater accessibility and opportunities for individuals with deafness and hearing loss. Since our inception as the National Association for the Deaf, we have changed our brand name twice to reflect our evolving advocacy campaigning - DeafHear in 2007 and, as of 1st November 2018, Chime. While our name has changed, our focus and values have not. We remain dedicated to a society where deafness and hearing loss doesn’t hold back an individual’s potential, personal choice or quality of life. Our nationwide resource centres provide access to services, social workers, mental health professionals, resources, assistive technologies, as well as access to a community promoting social inclusion, events, and more. Our success stories include: • Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) • Rubella Vaccine mandatory for all children • Access to Emergency Services via Text Message • Specialist Nationalist Mental Health Service for Deaf people • NAD/UCD Aural Rehabilitation Course • NRB (HSE) Audiology Service • Department of Education & Skills Disability Act • Family Support Service • News for the Deaf on RTE in Irish Sign Language with Deaf newscasters • Subtitling services on television – now more than 80% of programming subtitled • First Irish Sign Language Dictionary and Sign Away in Ireland • Signed Performances at theatres and venues • HINTS (RTE Teletext Service) • SignLink • Deaftech (Assistive Technology) • STEP – Deaf telephone users rebate scheme • National Text Relay Service operated by Eircom Chime is a registered Charity (RCN 20008772).

It's great to see more focus on inclusivity in the workforce, like the efforts mentioned at the Guinness Storehouse! At Chime, we believe accessibility is key to ensuring everyone can fully enjoy these experiences. It's important to continue the conversation on how to make all spaces more inclusive, especially for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Take a look at this article in the journal.ie: https://lnkd.in/eBb6TyRq #Chime #Chime60 #AccessibilityMatters #Inclusivity #chime60 Open Doors Initiative

Although the Leaving Certificate offers exams in 17 languages, Irish Sign Language (ISL) is still left out. This exclusion is a significant oversight, ignoring the fact that ISL is a recognised language in Ireland and is the primary language for part of Ireland’s population. Watch this video to listen to Shane and Ellies views on the matter. Department of Education — Ireland RTE #Chime #Chime60 #ISL #LeavingCert #ISLWeek

We are campaigning for Irish Sign Language (ISL) to be introduced as a Leaving Cert exam subject! ISL is a national language, and it's time it gets the recognition it deserves in our education system. Sixth year students Ellie Woods and Shane Hamilton say it is unfair and discriminatory that students can sit exams in a wide range of EU and other languages, but not ISL, despite the fact that it is recognised in Ireland as an official language. Read more about our efforts in this article and join us in advocating for change. RTE Department of Education — Ireland #Chime #Chime60 #ISL #LeavingCert #EqualEducation #ISLWeek

September is Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Month. Last week, our AccessAbility ERG (Employee Resource Group) hosted an impactful internal webinar to raise awareness about the experiences of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community—a vital conversation for fostering inclusive workplaces. We were delighted to be joined by Laura Donnellan and Damien Owens (He/Him) from Chime The National Charity for Deaf & Hard of Hearing People. Their expertise and passion for advocating for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals was powerful. A special thank you to both Damien Owens and our colleague Peter Oldacres for sharing their personal lived experiences with us. Your insights gave us a deeper understanding of what we can all do to be better allies. 🤝 We are committed to driving inclusion and diversity and our ERGs play a pivotal role in shaping a more inclusive Musgrave, contributing significantly to our vision of becoming a world-class food and beverage business. Together, we can create a workplace and community where everyone feels valued, respected and included. 🤝 #DeafAwarenessMonth #SignLanguageAwarenessMonth #Chime #InclusionMatters #ERG #LifeAtMusgrave Luke Hanlon CDir Eileen Biggs Liz Larkin Julie Dorel Siobhan Hennessy Kelita McCarter Aileen Byrne Lorna Cotter Richard White

The government recently launched a new scheme called 'Work and Access' to support people with disabilities to access and remain in employment. This new scheme includes communication support in the workplace for the first time, including ISL interpreters. At Chime are very proud to work with the Ukranian Deaf community in Ireland. Our Community Resource Officer in Galway alone has this year supported 19 Deaf adults and 3 Deaf children. His understanding that these people, who are in a very difficult situation, having to flee their homeland and all that they know, also have an additional language barrier, their primary language being Ukranian Sign Language which is very different to ISL. Together they have built a mutual relationship of trust and respect accessing services, accommodation, schools and supporting job seeking such as interview techniques and CV building. #ukraine #USL #ISL #ChimeServices #DeafSupports #DeafAwareness
