Tackling Climate Change, One Tree at a Time At Coillte, our sustainably managed forests are part of the solution to climate change. Trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produce oxygen as they grow and when we use sustainably grown Irish wood as a substitute for carbon-intensive construction materials we are helping will help to reduce carbon emissions. And all the while supporting local jobs and the economy. With every tree we plant, we’re supporting Ireland’s Climate Action goals. https://lnkd.in/gtwdycB #ForestsForClimate #GreenerFuture #Sustainability  #Forestry #CarbonCapture

Well-managed forests offer a triple benefit to our climate by serving as a carbon sink, store and substitute.   They’re often referred to as the lungs of our planet because as trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, releasing pure oxygen back into the air at the same time.   This carbon is then stored in the tree’s trunks, branches, leaves and roots. Building with wood and wood products from sustainably managed forests instead of carbon-intensive materials, helps to reduce carbon emissions. It also supports local jobs, so it’s a win-win. That’s why at Coillte we’re managing our forests sustainably and planting new ones too.   Every aspect of forester Paul McGann’s job is focused on optimising the climate benefits of our forests. In this short video he discusses the role Coillte’s forests play in combating climate change.   Our forests really are the lungs of our planet.   For more about forests for climate visit Coillte.ie   #ForestsForClimate #GreenerFuture #Sustainability #Forestry #CarbonCapture

As demand for new homes in Ireland grows, building more with wood will help decarbonise our built environment, supporting Ireland’s Climate Action Plan. Using sustainably grown Irish wood as a low-carbon substitute for carbon-intensive construction materials will help to reduce carbon emissions and support local jobs and the economy.   By the end of this decade, Coillte plans to produce over 15 million cubic metres of certified Irish wood while also promoting the increased use of timber frame in the construction of our homes. And, for every tree Coillte harvests three trees are planted in its place, ensuring a sustainable cycle for future generations.   In this short video, forester Ronan O'Keeffe explains how Coillte’s forests are playing a crucial role in shaping Ireland’s sustainable future.
