dConnect is proud to be a partner in last week’s EIT HEALTH UK-IRELAND Dundalk I-Days event! It was truly inspiring to see such diverse and enthusiastic teams tackle the challenge of #Narcolepsy using Design Thinking over one and a half days. Huge congratulations to NarConnect, the winning team, for their innovative solution - a Bluetooth-enabled patch that streamlines medication delivery, alerts users to narcoleptic episodes, and reduces GP visits, making a real impact in the lives of those living with narcolepsy. The students were supported by an amazing lineup of expert facilitators and speakers, including Adrian Coyle, Des O'Toole, Orla Nolan, Deirdre O'Rourke, Laura Caden, Sinead Sexton, Ann Quinn, Brian Markey, Dolores Donegan, Thelma Pentony, Claire Staple, Bridget Kelly, Dara Keeley, and many more. Special thanks to Elaine Armstrong and Alan Hickey from Narcolepsy Ireland for their invaluable support. The multidisciplinary NarConnect team featured James Sands (Maths & Data Analytics), @Jordana Hamilton (BioScience), and Raphael Frogoso (Software Development). Their commitment to healthtech innovation was outstanding, and Breanndán Casey from the Connected Health & Wellbeing Cluster and Ceara Treacy PhD, from dConnect are excited to mentor NarConnect ahead of the EU Finals in Budapest on November 28th. The AI Standards Hub is a platform by The Alan Turing Institute that offers a searchable catalogue of AI standards, policies, and training materials, along with opportunities for collaboration through events and forums. It also provides access to research and insights on AI governance. On the Hub you can find nearly 300 AI-related standards being developed or published by prominent Standards Development Organizations. The filters available on this website help users refine their search for AI standards based on various criteria. These include: - Domain: Categories such as horizontal (general) AI applications or specific sectors like healthcare, energy, or transport. - Application: Filters by specific AI applications like computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), or robotics. - Scope: Specifies whether the standard is AI-specific or AI-enabling (related technologies like data management or cybersecurity). - Topic: Covers subjects like bias, data quality, privacy, explainability, system lifecycle, and security. - Type of Standard: Classifies the type of standard, including foundational and terminology, interface and architecture, and management processes. - Stage of Development: Indicates whether the standard is a draft, pre-draft, or published. - Issuing Body: Filters by the organization responsible for the standard (e.g., ISO, IEEE, BSI, NIST). - Committee: Sorts standards by the specific committees developing them. - Open for Comment: Shows standards open for public feedback. - Free to Access: Filters standards that are freely available. The user can also sort results by date, alphabetically, or by interaction. The AI Standards Hub also includes a second repository, the Policy database, where you can search AI-related documents published by governmental and other official sources within your area of interest. 🌐 Excited to attend AI Con Belfast and hear from Rory Hanratty, Chief Technology Officer, Axial 3D! Rory presented the lessons learned by Axial3D going from a cutting edge idea to an FDA cleared AI application. He outlined the importance of understanding the data, assessing risk and the important role of people in the AI-person team. His talk also outlined the critical challenge of building trustworthy AI solutions, especially in the realm of GenAI . With inherent risks like hallucinations in LLMs, it's crucial to focus on advanced techniques, rigorous testing, and continuous learning to mitigate these risks and ensure greater reliability.
