As one of the driving forces behind ePresence, Gillian has played a big part in shaping the company's success alongside our dedicated team. 👩💼✨ ❓What mistake does Gillian see clients make time and time again? "Believing they’ll do it themselves. They have the best intentions, but life always gets in the way. That’s where we come in - we make sure it actually gets done." ❓Favourite part of working at ePresence? "It has to be the team. We’re really lucky to have such a great mix of people working together, both socially and professionally. Our mix of talents is not a coincidence, it's by design. When a problem arises, we put the heads together and solve it quickly." ❓Most memorable digital blunder? "Oh, that’s an easy one—it’s burned into my memory forever. Back in 1993, I was shown 'the internet' for the very first time via a dial-up modem connection. I just remember rolling my eyes thinking to myself, 'what a waste of time, this’ll never catch on.'" ❓Weirdest job she’s ever had? "I had a summer job when I was a student working in a fancy women’s shop in Cork. I was miserable. The shop was usually empty, but we always had to 'look busy,' which often meant unfolding perfectly folded clothes - and fold them all over again. I didn’t stay there long!" ❓Favourite tool or app for getting things done? "I have to say I love Canva. I've always been a big fan of Photoshop and still am, but I find myself using Canva more and more these days because of how quickly I can get designs done." ❓Thoughts on AI? "I’m really excited about AI. I see it as a tool to make our work more efficient, helping us automate repetitive tasks and discover valuable insights for our clients. It won't replace jobs - I believe it will do the complete opposite." ❓Recently inspired by? "I only just watched a documentary about author Edna O’Brien, and I was really taken aback at how badly she was treated in Ireland during her life. She was so talented, ahead of her time - definitely inspirational." ❓When she’s not working? "I enjoy getting out for a walk close to home, especially at this time of year - I love the fresh air and a good podcast." "As an experienced web developer, the most rewarding part of my job is seeing ideas come to life through code. "Never stop learning. The field is always changing, new frameworks, languages and tools are constantly emerging. Staying stagnant can make your skills obsolete, so always stay curious and invest in learning—even learning outside your comfort zone." ❓Biggest mistake she sees clients make? "Overloading their site with plugins. Too many plugins can slow down site performance, cause conflicts and make troubleshooting more difficult. Proper site maintenance is also crucial i.e. regular updates, backups and security checks are essential to keep a WordPress site healthy and functional." ❓Who inspires Ilona the most? "My daughter, who works as a DevOps engineer. Watching her passion, dedication and problem-solving skills motivates me to continue growing my own career.
