Offshore wind is significantly contributing to the global effort against climate change and aiding the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Utilising our natural resources, such as wind energy, can help Ireland meet its climate goals and supply clean energy to homes, farms, and businesses. As we continue with our drive to deliver offshore wind projects as part of our net zero strategy, we are committed to promoting the marine mammal observer (MMO) role in Ireland and helping to increase the number of qualified and experienced professionals through supporting bespoke MMO training programmes. Read more about our dedicated Marine Mammal Observer programmme in the blog link below. Offshore wind has a major role to play in our transition to a decarbonised energy system. Since 2017, we have been planning and developing offshore wind projects in Ireland and the UK. As part of our ambition to promote floating offshore wind in Ireland, we are sponsoring the TF Wind Team who are taking part in this year's Floating Wind Challenge. This is an intervarsity challenge, with universities competing from the Netherlands, Taiwan, the UK, Belgium, and Ireland. The challenge is to design the floating platform and mooring system to support a Vevor 400W wind turbine at a height of 1.2m above the water surface. We wish all teams the best of luck. It has never been more important to develop new technologies to help decarbonise the energy sector in the face of climate change. This will require an innovation ecosystem that is both international and collaborative. To support this, we are a founding member and actively involved in the Free Electrons Program. In our latest blog post, read more about how the programme is helping to deliver cutting-edge ideas that will support the ultimate goal of accelerating Ireland’s journey to a net zero future: https://lnkd.in/e8BHtxA5 Visit www.freeelectrons.org to find out more about the programme. The closing date for the current round of applications is next Friday, 24th January 2025. #ESBNetZeroFuture #FreeElectrons

We would like to congratulate all at Siemens on celebrating its 100th anniversary in Ireland. Commenting on the milestone, Paddy Hayes, our Chief Executive, said: "The Shannon Scheme had a profound impact on Ireland at the time, providing the electricity essential for social and economic development. Since then, ESB has worked together with Siemens on many important, innovative and groundbreaking projects supporting resilience, energy security and low carbon electricity. Many congratulations to Siemens on their centenary in Ireland." #ESBNetZeroFuture
On this day, 7th January 1925, we began our journey in Ireland as Siemens-Schuckert (Ireland) Ltd. Today, we celebrate 100 years of innovation, resilience, and partnerships. 🎂 Our Irish journey began with ESB to deliver a transformative project for Ireland: the construction of the Shannon Hydroelectric Scheme in Ardnacrusha, County Clare which started in 1925. Completed four years later, the 86-megawatt power plant revolutionized the Irish Free State by harnessing the power of the River Shannon, ushering in the electrification of the country. This monumental project laid the groundwork for Ireland's first national energy network, which continues to benefit from the renewable energy produced at Ardnacrusha.💡 Find out how we are commemorating a century of shaping Ireland's infrastructure and digital landscape here: https://sie.ag/2pvyYH

We have published our fourth gender pay gap report which outlines the positive actions we are taking across the organisation to enhance gender-balanced leadership, address ESB’s gender pay gap, and details of 'Our Commitment in Action' spotlight series. Paddy Hayes, our Chief Executive, commented: "At ESB, we are committed to building and sustaining a diverse workforce with a culture of inclusion, equity and belonging. Publishing our gender pay gap data helps to reinforce our focus on this. While we are proud of the steps we have taken to attract more women into STEM disciplines, it remains a key challenge. Maintaining progress is vital, both for the open and inclusive culture we are committed to, and for the delivery of our ambitious strategy for a clean, net-zero electricity system." ESB’s mean gender pay gap for 2024 is 11.0%. When overtime and role-specific allowances are excluded, the mean gender pay gap falls to 3.0%. The median gender pay gap is just 0.3%. Further increasing the representation of women in ESB and reducing the gender pay gap remains a key goal of our wider People Strategy. Battery storage is playing an important role in the decarbonisation of Ireland's electricity system and currently, ESB has one of the largest portfolios in Europe. We were delighted to welcome EU Commissioner Michael McGrath to our Aghada site in Co #Cork last month to officially open our latest major battery plant which is part of our investment of up to €300m in the technology. The 150MW (300MWh) project – delivered with our partners Fluence and Powercomm Group – will provide fast-acting energy storage to help provide grid stability and support more renewable power onto Ireland’s electricity system. #ESBNetZeroFuture

In recognition of our ongoing commitment to responsible business conduct and sustainability, we have been awarded a recertification of the 'Business Working Responsibly Mark' by Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI). This is one of Ireland’s leading standards for responsible business, assessing the full management system of an organisation across four pillars: governance, economic, social, and environmental. Commenting on the achievement, our Chief Executive Paddy Hayes, said: “Securing the Mark is a testament to the dedication shown across our organisation to sustainability and responsible business practices – embodying our values of being trusted, caring, courageous and driven.” Our Executive Director, People & Sustainability, Sinead Kilkelly added: “This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work of all who contributed to the assessment and audit processes. This success underscores that our people are doing the right thing in how we conduct our business.” Tomás Sercovich, CEO of BITCI, commended ESB’s achievement: “We applaud ESB for being recertified with the Business Working Responsibly Mark. They showed leadership and commitment throughout the entire process and we are delighted to have ESB as an active champion for moving to more sustainable business practices.” Read more about the Mark here: https://lnkd.in/ekFv_C5N #ESBNetZeroFuture
