The British Academy has today published thirteen discussion papers from a range of expert perspectives across the ‘SHAPE’ disciplines (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy) to explore the question: ‘What are the possibilities of a good digital society?’ The papers explore a wide range of issues, from the environmental impacts of digitalised daily life to the possibilities of ‘good’ Generative AI in the cultural and creative industries, to examining more closely what we mean by a ‘good digital society’. Alongside these we have published an introductory summary that provides a thematic overview of the papers and points to how we might conceptualise the principles that underpin these diverse visions of a good digital society. As part of this series, three Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery colleagues Prof. Mary Lynch, Dr Elizabeth Morrow (Visiting Research Fellow) and Dr Edward Naessens co authored a paper titled "Exploring Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Quality of Life for Older People Ageing in Place in Super-Aged Societies" - https://lnkd.in/e_z_-qND This series of discussion papers is part of the British Academy’s Digital Society policy programme, which draws upon the ‘SHAPE’ disciplines to explore the ways in which digital technologies, tools, and practices shape and are shaped by our society, and how policymakers can navigate the digital society in the coming decade. Delighted to share the recording of our Caring Voices event. Caring Voices was an evening of Irish music, songs, and stories from Irish singer and actress, Lisa Lambe. On May 22nd 2024, Lisa performed a special performance of her show Nightvisiting exclusively for our Faculty in RCSI. For those of you who were a part of our Christmas event in December in person or virtually via our Youtube movie, you may remember Lisa as one of our performers who enchanted us with her beautiful singing and special tale of the role the Midwife played in Irish society. Nightvisiting connects audiences to the social role night-time house visits once played in Ireland’s oral traditions and folklore and in the preservation of its songs and stories. From tender love songs to the bawdy; to songs of loss and longing; Nightvisiting reflects on nostalgia and togetherness. As part of our celebrations for our 50th Year as a Faculty in RCSI, Caring Voices offered not just a unique opportunity to come together as a community and enjoy an evening of music and song, but also allowed us to reflect on our core values of compassion, care, and commitment. The evening included an address by the Ukrainian Chief Nursing Officer, Kateryna Komar, who joined the Faculty for a week as part of her study visit in Dublin with her staff from Kiev. https://lnkd.in/e9fKQHxu

This session was facilitated by Sibeal Carolan and Kathleen Kinsella who shared expertise. The aim of this CPD programme is to raise awareness of, appreciation for, and knowledge about menopause amongst colleagues in employment settings, and the impact that menopause can have on some women in workplace. It further aims to start a national conversation about menopause. If you would like to avail of this CPD in your site/hospital please email facnurse@rcsi.com
