Irish Design Week 11th to 13th November 2024 with Design & Crafts Council Ireland Submit your application before 1st September to be part of the story. One of the leading lights for the Limerick chapter has been Adam De Eyto of Limerick School of Art & Design, Limerick School of Art & Design -TUS. We had been discussing a regional design centre in Limerick for years beforehand during his time in University of Limerick. Last year this ambition made its first step through the design collaboration FORGE Design Factory. GBM have run very popular Design Week Open Door sessions since 2019. Having seen similar initiatives run at DesignPhiladelphia, we tailored the open door sessions to fit what we could sustain, and what the audience would gain insight from. FORGE Design Factory ran a series of workshops and fireside talks. Limerick, the Shannon Region and the Mid West are a tour de force in the design and innovation field so let's show everyone what we are made of 💚 Although funding closes on the 1st, creatives can be a part of an existing event .. or open your workshop, factory, production facility, architecture studio etc for an hour or two. The trick is to keep it sustainable and easy! That way it can be rolled out as part of your calendar every year. https://lnkd.in/ejMXPHx9

We were fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work with our clients, Blarney Woollen Mills to produce storytelling wallcoverings which highlighted the value of brand heritage. Researched and designed by two of our premium brand teams Story on a Wall and Wallcoverings of Ireland , we produced digital wallcoverings for all of the bedrooms in this lovely boutique hotel. The story is told in six chapters, each one uniquely telling the story of a 200 year old mill, the birth of a global Irish brand, the impact this industry had on a local economy and the vision of the man who drove it, Christy Kelleher. As a family business, it was an organic process to understand the passion that drives generational passion to create and sustain a company. And Christy and the Kelleher family had it in spades ! Wishing our clients and their guests many years of enjoyment and thanks for believing in the power of visual storytelling. #digitalprinting #visualstorytelling #storyonawall #wallcoveringsofireland #brandheritage

The story of Blarney Woollen Mills Stories captured from a 200 year old building, a uniquely Irish brand and the vision of one man, Christy Kelleher, are woven together to produce six unique chapters in this visual wallcovering brand story. We are very proud of our involvement in the Doing Business in Chicago : Ireland Network Chicago Women's Forum. When our business started an export focused journey two years ago, we noticed the difficulties in leveraging support within the Irish framework, and the mountains that needed to be climbed in the US. Marketing, networking, legal, taxation, banking, patents, distribution etc all made for a challenging landscape. How to engage, speak and present are different there. The information necessary to progress is typically siloed into each respective profession. Access is there, but missteps are costly. Both in terms of time and money. The order in which a company is set up, if done incorrectly, can have serious ramifications. The Forum is the answer for businesses with their eye on the prize. There is a good support system in the Ireland Network Chicago. When we discussed the concept with them in 2022, they embraced it; asking us to be on the committee for this premium event in their 2024 calendar. Aligning with their mission statement, as relevant now as when it was written 21 years ago, the INC network have and continue to support Irish business. We are delighted to support them in delivering an exciting business development opportunity to shorten the lead time for other Irish businesses to get US ready. Today, a week out and are proud to be bringing our Forum event pull ups, designed and produced in house, to Chicago tomorrow for a 10 day business trip. In addition to the Women's Forum, Chicago hosts the famous Saint Patrick's Day celebration. March is National Irish-American Heritage Month. In a recent proclamation by President Joe Biden, this month long celebration recognises the contribution and value of the Irish and Irish-Americans in the US. Well, we are amazing 😊💚 The export journey for our 57 year old family business is still evolving, looking for opportunities and market openings. It's hard work ... but we wouldn't have it any other way ! #strongertogether #irelandbusiness #payitforward #WIB

Executive Director : GBM Limerick | Founder : Wallcoverings of Ireland | President : Story on a Wall | Visual Storyteller Honorary Consul to the Republic of Estonia for Limerick and the Midwest of Ireland

A short story .. In expansion and export mode, my company GBM first went to Chicago, Illinois in 2022 with two of our brands Story on a Wall and Wallcoverings of Ireland to establish a network, learn how to navigate within the US and establish a route to market. Why Chicago? 'City of the Big Shoulders' .. it's small enough to get traction and big enough to scale up. My company has been supported in setting up business by many people, organisations, companies, radio shows, government bodies and communities. One such company is The Concord Group who invited me to co-share in their Chicago office, thereby giving me an all important base. I remain very grateful and regularly count my blessings ! The Concord team are terrific .. smart, professional and hard working. I have seen the attention to detail and service they provide to clients and the vision and ambition they have to continue scaling up their business. If you have a project .. this is your team ! A special mention to Ed Stritch. Also to Jenny DePaolis Kathleen Condron Ciara Ryan, MBA Ireland Network Chicago

When : Thursday 7th December, 58 O'Connell Street Who will be there : • Colum McCann : an Irish writer of literary fiction. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, and now lives in New York. He is the co-founder and President of Narrative 4, an international empathy education nonprofit. He is also a Thomas Hunter Writer in Residence at Hunter College, New York. He is also a very nice man ! • Roisin Meaney was born in Listowel, County Kerry, though her family moved to Tipperary town before she was one. Meaney qualified as a primary teacher and taught in Dublin before spending two years in Zimbabwe. In London she worked as a copywriter for three years. Back in Ireland she resumed her teaching but also began writing, and in 2001 her first novel, The Daisy Picker, won a Write a Bestseller competition and was published in 2004. Meaney switched to job-sharing to allow more time for writing until, four years later, with three published novels and another on the way she took early retirement from the classroom and became a fulltime writer. • Colm Mac Con Iomaire : an Irish composer and musician from Blackrock, County Dublin, Ireland, who plays violin and sings with The Frames. Mac Con Iomaire has been involved with The Frames since 1990 and his interest in the Irish Language led to The Frames's involvement in two Irish-language albums released for the Irish charity Concern during Seachtain na Gaeilge.
