🇫🇷 A french customer Florence hiked the South West Coast Path in Cornwall & sent on this clip of the trail in an explosion of colour. Carpets of purple heather & yellow furze or gorse surround the old mines in summer creating a unique blooming tapestry. 📷 In light of recent focus on how people are feeling with World Mental Health Day, some more examples of customers just having a good time on their hiking holidays. 😊 Boris' partner had a silent disco on the Cotswold Way, drinks for Viveca & friend on the same trail after a days walking, Christophe's group inspired by Robert Burns on the Roy Roy Way at the Birks of Aberfeldy and an end of hike treat for Tim's group who had a great time on the Burren Way. The Irish Government budget has as usual brought with it a lot of attention and examination of the type of choices made for the year ahead. At Hillwalk Tours we pay close attention to the things that can enhance our attraction as a hiking destination as well as the support for the rural economy on which our loyal suppliers of accommodation and transfer services depend. We were delighted to learn of Irish Government funding for 21 Community Trail Organisations as well for the Dingle and Kerry Way. The money will be used to upgrade and maintain trails as well as promote them. Trail and hiking leisure activities are increasing across Europe and Ireland is no exception. (https://lnkd.in/ejmqJph2) Further good news emerged about the development of the South Kerry Greenway which when finished will incorporate the unique prospect of using the long abandoned Gleensk Railway Viaduct as a spectacular walkway and cycle path. The whole project when completed will be 32km long. It's not hard to understand why Scotland's West Highland Way is so popular with our customers when Ingrid enters magnificent landscape photos like these into our competition. Sometimes you get a photo that deserves a post all by itself and so it is with this wonderful shot by Natascha, a Dutch customer on the #DingleWay (#Kerry) where the locals as always showed a great deal of interest as to who is passing by. Despite the rainy weather or maybe because of it she took this once in a lifetime snap. You can be pretty sure she will never have a Robin land on her boot again. The Robin Redbreast (Spideog in Irish) is one of Ireland's most familiar birds with over 2 million pairs breeding across the Republic of Ireland, in many different habitats. According to the Irish Times in Irish folklore, "to kill a robin was bad luck that would result in a permanent tremor in the offender's hand. In some parts of the country, if the spideog entered a house, it signalled the death of someone in the family." The birds were generally accepted as messengers for those in the spirit world. But, to be fair our ancestors were a superstitious lot and easily spooked. All the same, careful now! #photography #robinredbreast #birds #hiking #holiday #ireland

POST TEXT: Hillwalk, best for active adventures! Just returned from my Hillwalk Tours walk in Wales on the South Pembrokeshire Path. This was my third time booking a long distance walk with Hillwalk, and like the others, it did not disappoint. We loved and appreciated each and every day. It’s so nice to be able to hike at my age (72) with just a small daypack that has my lunch and rain gear in it, and let Hillwalk arrange the schedule, book the B&B’s or Inns, and provide all the maps and information needed to enjoy the walk while learning about the area you’re in. Hillwalk also assists with information to get you from your home wherever it is to your starting point (in our case, Tenby, Wales.) Our Inns and B&B’s have always been excellent; this time was no exception. You have a choice of difficulty levels and miles per day that you want to walk; we averaged 10-12 miles per day which was perfect for us. There is flexibility with Hillwalk as well, where you can book “extra” days (re: rest days!) wherever you like to do some extra castle visiting and exploring. I hope to book with Hillwalk again soon.
