When Terry Fox was 18, he lost his leg from above the knee to osteogenic sarcoma, but found a fierce determination to bring an end to the suffering that cancer causes. On April 12th, 1980 Terry began the ‘Marathon of Hope’ – a cross-Canada run to raise funds for cancer research. The only thing that could have stopped Terry from reaching the Pacific Ocean eventually did. Cancer returned in his lungs and he was forced to stop on September 1st, 1980 after having run 5,373 kilometres in 143 days. Before his death on June 28, 1981, Terry had achieved his once unimaginable goal of $1 for every Canadian. This incredible achievement then set in motion a series of annual Terry Fox Runs which take place in over 25 countries, and raise millions in funding for cancer research. We are delighted that Terry Fox’s brother, Fred Fox, will be joining the Dublin run this September 14th in Dublin’s Herbert Park. Fred joined Patrick Haughey on the Ireland Canada Connection podcast last year and you can hear the full interview here https://lnkd.in/eZH53qMz All funds raised from the Terry Fox Run Ireland will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society – for more information and to register, follow this link https://lnkd.in/e-QRcYFG The Terry Fox Foundation Fred Fox Irish Cancer Society Dave Kyffin Stew Paterson Kate Hickey Dr Deirdre Giblin Chris Collenette Dan O'Donnell Garrett Monaghan Graham A.
