We are pleased to learn of changes that the Government plans to enact to the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), which supports the development and upgrade of outdoor recreational facilities, which LDCs play a central role in delivering. Among other things, the changes will provide for greater alignment between ORIS-funded project and County Outdoor Recreation Plans, and will deliver accessibility improvements for people with limited mobility. Further information on ORIS is available in the document below. Department of Rural and Community Development

A very special day for our member companies who were instrumental in setting up the Ukrainian National Choir as the documentary which tells the story of the choir is launched with Her Excellency Ms Larysa Gerasko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Ireland. 18 months ago, the choir was set up by Terry Hyland, Cavan County Local Development and Adeline O' Brien, Empower , Phil Coulter who generously provided his expertise and guidance gratis, with support from the Irish Local Development Network. The song itself is about a couple who escape from the troubles and there are many parallels between the original lyrics and the current situation of Ukrainian refugees. The choir director for the initiative, Yulia Boyko, is originally from Ukraine and has been in Ireland for twenty years and now runs her own music school in Cavan, translated the song verses to Ukrainian. The documentary follows the journey of the choir from their initial rehearsal through to the recording and launch of the single Steal Away and their performance in the Bord Gáis theatre. It is one of the many health and wellbeing initiatives being run by our member companies to integrate our new arrivals and and the video emotively captures the impact that Local Development Companies are having on our communities. This work is funded through the Social Inclusion Community Activation Fund, through the Department of Rural and Community Development and we are delighted to have had representatives present at the launch and Deirdre Kelly addressing the audience. This funding is administered by Pobal who are an important partner to the Local Development Sector.
