Calling Irish Metalwork Companies employing metal fabrication apprentices. Are you aware of the category your company is registered in with SOLAS (An tSeirbhís Oideachais Leanúnaigh agus Scileanna)? Your are either a Construction Metal Fabrication or an Engineering Metal Fabrication employer. It means very little until your apprentices go on their off-the-job phases 2,4&6 and then it means a lot. It actually means a difference in pay (state funding) of over €4,000-00 even though each apprentice is getting the same training, the same time and experience the same costs. I am calling for this situation to be rectified immediately. Either rates increase, decrease or they meet in the middle. This is tax payers money and the waste needs to stop. Has a pay gap to be gender based before it is dealt with? I have written to Simon Harris who is doing great work already in this field and we are awaiting action. 1,500 educational packs were utilised by 20 schools across Kilkenny and Carlow. 850 learners attended the One Book One Film launch. 1,200 watched the movie at the Watergate Theatre Kilkenny and Delta Centre, Carlow. Over 300 scavenger hunt entries were received. 200 pieces of writing and art went on display at Rothe House and Visual Carlow. 60 families participated in animation workshops.
