MICROHOME Kingspan Compliments Award: Forest Keepers Outpost Forest Keepers' Outpost, by Matthew John Fallowfield-Cooper and Airdyas Mikalajunas of Fallow Studio, is a pioneering community initiative in the Valdivian rainforest of southern Chile, dedicated to combating deforestation and promoting sustainable living. Its cluster-based design is anchored by a multi-purpose central tower, featuring rainwater storage, energy generation and resilience backup systems, fostering a self-sufficient and interconnected community. Into The Valley – Inspired by Geology Rising prominently in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district, the Valley is a geology-inspired, plant-covered structure with three towers measuring 67, 81, and 100 metres, featuring cantilevered apartments. Awarded the best new skyscraper in the world at the 2021 Emporis Skyscraper Awards, it stands out for seamlessly integrating offices, shops, restaurants, cultural spaces and apartments. It also offers a public green valley between the towers on the fourth and fifth floors, accessible by two external stone staircases. Glass pond roofs, with a permanent water layer, enhance the building’s natural look. The challenge with this was finding a strong enough structure to support both the weight of the water as well as the 2000 kilograms of glass panes used in the construction of the ponds and a glass bridge which connects parts of the complex. The vision was realised through the use of our structural glass and glass fin systems. Another milestone in our Planet Passionate journey 🎯 We are thrilled to announce we have met our Planet Passionate target to recycle one billion PET bottles* into our manufacturing processes annually by 2025 – a year ahead of schedule! This achievement would not have been possible without Synthesia Technology Group, part of Kingspan Group, which uses post-consumer waste PET as a raw material to create polyols for use in thermal insulation and insulated panel products. Increasing our use of recycled, bio-based and renewable input materials is an important facet of Kingspan’s circularity strategy, so achieving this target is testament to the exciting progress we’re making on this journey.
