We would like to extend our congratulations to Paul Korzeniewski for winning the KTL Values Award for People. At #KTL, we are committed to supporting and investing in the communities where we operate. Paul Korzeniewski returned to his alma mater St. Ambrose High School, Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland to mentor S3 pupils by guiding them through mock employment interviews. Paul not only conducted the interviews but also provided valuable feedback, and shared experience led career guidance to students. Paul Korzeniewski, commented, “It is great to be involved in helping the younger generation select a good career path, especially in Telecoms as this industry may not be at the forefront of young people’s minds. This particularly resonates with me given it was my former school. KTL is committed to giving back to the communities where we are located. I look forward to engaging in these events in the future. It is great to be recognised, and I hope others can help in similar ways to guide and grow the future engineers and project teams in our industry.” David Bromley-Walsh commented, “This initiative by Paul reflects KTL's core value for people. Paul's commitment to giving back to his local community is notable, helping young people to develop their interview skills and getting them ready for future career opportunities.” To find out more about KTL visit our website at ktl.ie #KTL #ConnectingCommunites, #Values, #People

#KTL Power demonstrates a swift response to Storm Ashley. #KTL Power supported our client ESB Networks (ESBN) with restoring power to the affected areas following Storm Ashley on Sunday 20th October. Restoring power to ESBNs customers was a collaborative effort involving ESBN, KTL management and construction teams, all working together to ensure electricity was safely restored to customers in the affected areas. Storm Ashley, the first named storm of the autumn-winter season swept across Ireland last Sunday bringing rough weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy rainfall. The storm brought wind speeds of up to 120 km/h in some areas particular in western counties. Authorities issued weather warnings, advising residents to avoid travel where possible and take precautions due to potential hazards, such as fallen trees and power lines. Although Storm Ashley subsided later in the day, it left behind a trail of damage. Brendan Brophy highlights the challenges and achievements of the project: "The main objective was to safely restore power to affected areas as quickly as possible. Our teams faced the task of working in a forested area where numerous trees had been felled by the storm. Despite the challenges, KTL successfully completed the repairs in just one day, demonstrating our commitment to safety, efficiency and reliability." Bernard Downey commented, "We were tasked with repairing a section of the overhead line network to restore power to our clients’ customers in an area that had been severely damaged by the storm. Alongside our client ESB Networks, our teams worked tirelessly to safely remove fallen trees, erect new poles, and restore the power supply swiftly. “KTL Power's ability to respond effectively to such storm damage reinforces our position as a trusted partner in the power industry. This project is a testament to our dedicated teams delivering a safe, efficient, and quality service.” #KTL, #KTLPower, #ConnectingCommunities, #StormAshley #PowerRestoration #ESBNetworks

#KTL are thrilled to support ESB Telecoms with the installation of a new monopole tower at the Mohill 38kv substation in Co Leitrim. We were contracted by ESB Telecoms to install a new concrete foundation and a 20-metre multi-use monopole on this site. This infrastructure will provide additional capacity to ESB Telecoms customers and future-proof the network in the area. Jason Mc Grath, #KTL Project Manager commented, “There were a few challenges on this site due to an existing live gantry crossing the new foundation area, live overhead lines in the vicinity and as the site is located close to a busy road, therefore limiting the space available to set down materials. We also encountered water seeping into the foundation excavation, which required daily management. “These issues were resolved efficiently with careful planning and excellent cooperation from ESB Telecoms and ESB Networks. The crew - Ollie and Colm persevered in poor weather conditions at times to deliver a very high standard, quality finish.” Declan Maddy, #KTL Project Director commented, “This is another great example of KTL's strong, long-standing partnership with ESB Telecoms supporting their ongoing commitment to infrastructure investment in Ireland to enhance customer connectivity. Well done to all the KTL team involved. We’re pleased to share that all works were completed on time and within budget.” KTL is a leading provider of end-to-end infrastructure solutions and has a proven record of delivering exceptional engineering services for clients across the telecommunications and power sectors. With over 26 years of experience in connecting communities, we have a deep understanding of what works. We have implemented strategies that guarantee efficient and effective results, and it is our commitment to excellence that keeps our clients coming back time and time again. Mobile Plant and Machinery Safety – A critical risk for the CIF’s annual #CIFSafety campaign. Mobile plant and machinery safety is one of the key risks being highlighted as part of the Construction Industry Federation’s (CIF) annual Construction Safety Campaign, running from October 14th to 25th. Emma-Jane Doyle, #KTL SHEQ Advisor shared,"Mobile plant and machinery safety is a critical risk on all our sites due to the number of different plant and machinery used. It's crucial that each piece of equipment is understood, and the right safety measures are in place to ensure workers go home safely to their families at the end of each working day." Some key tips from Emma-Jane on mobile plant and machinery safety: - All operators must be trained and hold valid certifications, such as a CSCS card for dumpers or excavators. Competency is essential for safe operations. - Ensure seat belts are worn when provided, maintain machinery to high standards, and conduct pre-use checks. - Segregate pedestrian and vehicle routes on-site and make sure PPE is worn, including high-visibility clothing at all times. - Always be mindful of overhead lines and implement additional control measures if present. As part of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), #CIFSafety24, #KTL puts the spotlight on mental health, one of five critical risks being highlighted as part of this two-week safety campaign. We spoke with Beth Hoey, #KTL SHEQ Coordinator about mental health. In construction mental health isn't a luxury, it is a crucial element of keeping workers safe. Beth emphasises, "Mental health is the core enabler of employee engagement and performance." When our staff feel good mentally, they're more productive, less likely to leave, and create a positive environment where everyone enjoys coming to work. Recognising the Signs It's important to be aware of the signs of mental health struggles in yourself and others. Beth highlights the importance of noticing changes in behavior, such as: ● Constant worry and stress ● Feelings of guilt or worthlessness ● Changes in sleep patterns or fatigue ● Decline in personal hygiene ● Decrease in work performance If you see these signs in yourself or a colleague, simply ask, "Are you okay?" Sometimes, just being a listening ear can make all the difference. As part of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), #CIFSafetyCampaign 2024, #KTL is proud to put the spotlight on heart health, a critical factor in workplace well-being. The construction industry is renowned for its demanding physical environment. Yet, beyond the physical strain, a silent threat often lurks in the background – heart disease. Helen F.'s Story Helen Finnegan, #KTL's SHEQ Advisor, understands the importance of heart health all too well. Recently, she faced a heart-stopping situation when her partner experienced a heart attack at home. "It happened so quickly," Helen recalls. "There I was, one minute going about my normal routine in the morning, and the next, I was witnessing my partner having a full-on heart attack." Fortunately, Helen had recently completed CPR training offered by #KTL. This training proved invaluable in those crucial moments. "The adrenaline kicked in, but the training definitely kicked in even faster," Helen explains. "Knowing what to do while having the assistance of 999 allowed me to provide immediate aid to my partner until the paramedics arrived - within six minutes." The experience was undoubtedly traumatic, but Helen emphasises the importance of workplace support. "#KTL have been incredible," she shares.
