About us

Responsible for developing sport in Co. Laois. The LSP initiative was developed by the Sport Ireland in order to create a national structure to co-ordinate and promote the development of sport at local level. Sport Ireland identified that the effective development of sport and recreation at the local level would be best delivered through the adoption of a partnership approach between all bodies and organisations involved in the delivery of sport and recreation. Our objectives are: • Enhanced planning of sport at local level • Increased levels of local participation, especially amongst specific target groups – older people, girls and women, people with disabilities, unemployed people and those who live in identified disadvantaged communities • Enhanced local coach deployment • Club development • Volunteer training • Local Directories of sports bodies and facilities • Better use of existing facilities • Clear priorities for local facility provision and improvement • School/club/community and possibly school-NGB link • Local sports events In order that these aims are fulfilled, the three main functions of LSP’s are summarised by Sport Ireland as: Information: – To include an audit of resources and a needs analysis which can be used as the basis for planning at local level Education: – To provide training opportunities and courses and to facilitate participation Implementation: – The Strategic Plan will be used to implement local programmes based on local requirements, to maximise the impact and benefit of national programmes at the local level, and to market and promote sport and physical activity. • 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝟒 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: Last week, as part of the training and cooperation activities (TCA) of the Erasmus+ Youth Programme, the Italian National Agency of the Erasmus+IYOUTH Program Agenzia Italiana per la Gioventù - AIG hosted the activity Social Sport as a Tool for Social Inclusion. Attended by Róisín Lawlor, our ESF+ Social Innovation in Sport Officer, the aim of the Seminar/Partnership Building Activity (PBA) was to explore the power of social sport as a tool for social inclusion. This was a wonderful knowledge-sharing and partnership-building opportunity, bridging local experiences with international perspectives, fostering collaborations between sports and youth work at both local and international levels. The event explored the potential of social sport to enhance social cohesion. Róisín also had the opportunity to contribute to a panel discussion, sharing with participants from all across the EU and beyond, an overview of the Sport Ireland "Sport 4 Empowerment" programme in Laois LSP and through the growing ESF+ Network across the country. We are very grateful to Léargas and AIG for this opportunity and look forward to implementing the knowledge gained in our future S4E & LSP programmes. A week on from the first Sport4All Innovation Summit, hosted by Sportinnovator I have had a chance to reflect on this spectacular event of sharing innovative 💡 projects from like minded people. I realise our project Wellness UnLAOISed isn't just the technology!!, it is only part of the narrative. It was about us clearly defining a need and creating new ways to generate value for those experiencing the need utilising the right tools- the technology!!. To receive European recognition was not only a personal success for all the hard work over the past 15 years but also recognition of the great work we do in Laois Sports Partnership. It is realising what can be achieved when you grow a seed and collaborate with the right people who see your vision Diane Cooper PhD EduFIT Karl Thomas PhD Sport Ireland. Our project Wellness UnLAOISed is a 12 week online evidence based multimodal exercise, nutrition and health education programme designed specifically for adults who are socially, educationally or economically disadvantaged. Click here for more details https://lnkd.in/eQHVzmTN. It covers physical activity, health, physical literacy and is hugely scalable as we have shown with our colleagues in Offaly Sports Partnership. This Innovation project was funded by Sport Ireland Innovation fund and removes barriers to participation in sport and physical activity. We look forward to future funding possibilities to further scale up both here and Europe. A huge thanks to all our partners for their expertise, dedication and commitment 👏. It highlights how a simple idea can grow and add value and become a model for best 👌 practice and innovation 💡 #Sportinnovator #Sportireland Cormac MacDonnell Benny Cullen Dr Jessica Wang Karl Thomas PhD EduFIT Diane Cooper PhD fiona bull Caitriona Heffernan Dr Tanya Mulcahy PhD Eimear Galvin Sheelagh Quinn Sport Ireland Sportinnovator Anitech Solutions
