A re-introduction to why our founder Jennifer McConnell created Living Legacy's End of Life / Advanced Planning service.
One year ago I launched my Living Legacy service in End of Life Planning... or more better termed... helping you get your affairs in order to make space for your life yet to live and planning for the ‘what ifs’ that may come along the way. 8 years ago, 27th August 2016, I had an accident that could have had fatal consequences. I have lived to tell the tale and am determined to help others, given that a 'what if' already happened to me. I started by training as an executive and life coach with Kingstown College, then an end of life planning facilitator with Before I Go Academy and now recognised as an Irish Hospice Foundation Think Ahead Champion. I have learned a lot about the process and have made it easier for you to undertake. Working with people on a one to one basis this past year, has highlighted the fear people have, not so much in getting their plans in place, but feeling overwhelmed at getting started. These things take time, which is why it is important to start taking steps today in case a 'what if' happens to you. In the annual Living Legacy Advanced Planning survey currently underway (https://lnkd.in/eyhdpMti), out of nearly 100 people, 64% cite family as a key reason for getting their plans in place, 56% stating that peace of mind is important for their own priority in doing this process. Yet 42% haven’t yet begun. This is where I can help. This work is the step before you formalise your wishes with your lawyer and financial advisors. This is how you gift yourself the headspace to consider all that is connected to you and how you want to be supported, honoured and remembered. Advance planning is more than just paperwork; it is an act of love. Over the past 10 days I have experienced silence in many forms - first in the library at the University of Limerick as I focus on writing my dissertation for my Masters in Applied Social Research, the second was at a silent retreat over 4 days. The contrast was fascinating - one a silence to learn, the other a silence to live. I was aware of the forced nature of both silence experiences but revelled in the permission for quiet to focus.
