About us
Macra na Feirme is a vibrant national voluntary organisation for young people between the ages of 17 and 35. The organisation consists of a nationwide network of clubs with six key areas of activity: agriculture, sport, travel, public speaking, performing arts and community involvement. Macra na Feirme is committed to the personal development of members and puts emphasis on social interaction and participation. One of Macra's main aims is to help young farmers get established in farming and assist them through learning and skills development. Macra na Feirme’s mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of rural communities in Ireland by supporting the social, economic, cultural, personal development and well-being of young people who have a rural connection including young farmers, by representing their interests in the development of relevant policies, programmes and services at National, Regional, and local levels and by advocating on their behalf.

Managing Director and Principal Consultant, Danellen Consulting. Specialising in strategy, project development, team training, leadership, and personal development coaching for NFPs & charities to build lasting futures.
Hard to believe that this fantastic IFA Farmer Health Checks programme funded by @DAFM in collaboration with @croi, Health Service Executive, Teagasc and @icos is reaching the final furlong with 4 more events to go and their original 1000 health checks already smashed in just 6 weeks and several thousands health packs disseminated since it was launched in late September. So far that’s over 1000 farmers in ireland who now know their health numbers and are armed with excellent information to help them make smart health choices and create healthier futures for themselves and their families. There were also a number of lives saved when quite a number were red flagged to hospital so high was their risk of stroke and heart attack - men and women. Delighted to see @teresaroche Chair of IFA Farm Families and Social Affairs welcoming Macra na Feirme President @elainehoulihan to learn about more the project and get her checks done at the Limerick mart yesterday. I have loved been part of this project since its inception and am looking forward to writing the evaluation and discovering just what impact the project has had across the farming community in ROI. What’s for certain is the example laid by the HSS (Northern Trust) through its Farm Family Health Checks programme over the past 10+ years in Northern Ireland and the ongoing impact of the industry/commercial/agency representative NI Agri-Rural Health Forum, led by Dr Rebecca Orr and supported by the Public Health Agency and Rural Support has been crucial in leading the way for this sort of positive intervention for improved farmer health across these islands. I’m hopeful that the IFA project won’t see its end on the 15th November as it’s much needed and appreciated by the farmers and their families in the South. But time and funding will tell the tale in due course.
