As New World: Aeternum launches on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, we’re delighted to share more of the art we created as part of our collaboration with Amazon Games for the game’s original release on PC! The Magic Media team crafted a wide range of art for the project, including unique weapons and armor. Though it might be hard to believe, this mycelium-like object below is actually a weapon! This two-handed blunderbuss was created to appear ambiguous, as though it’s unknown where its organic and technological parts start and end. We’re proud of how distinct this weapon is and how it has become transformed by Aeternum’s flora. Our game VFX artists made a splash with this sequence, where they explored applications of water effects in card-based video games! We spent ample time researching how water effects were implemented in games of different styles, including Hearthstone and Legends of Runeterra, which inspired the overall stylized behavior of the water. With a solid grasp of its core idea, our attention turned to texturing it, refining its timing and speed, and adding sparkles and bubbles for an additional visual ‘wow’ factor.
