Providing high quality care for all our patients is at the heart of everything we do at Mater Private Network.

About us

Mater Private Network offers patients from all over the country the highest standards of care; it is a full-service hospital, specialising in Heart and Vascular, Spine and Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Cancer, Surgery and Robotic-assisted Surgery services. Mater Private Network includes two high-tech hospitals, one in Dublin and one in Cork, two advanced Cancer Centres located in Limerick (Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre at the University Hospital Limerick) and Liverpool (Clatterbridge Private Clinic), and a network of out-patient clinics throughout Ireland. We also operate the diagnostic PET CT scanner at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin. We continually invest in quality, staff, innovation and infrastructure and in 2020, we opened two new Day Hospitals in Cherrywood, South Dublin and Northern Cross, North Dublin. These new facilities offer patients their consultation, scan & testing, and an initial treatment plan in one day, in one location. The Day Hospitals are designed around the needs of patients, ensuring seamless continuity of care and communications across the Mater Private Network. Mater Private Network recognises that patients can require elective, urgent or emergent access and with this in mind we have continued to grow our urgent and rapid access services. Mater Private Dublin is the only private hospital in Ireland to offer a 24-hour urgent cardiac care service. At Mater Private Network, we endeavour from the first point of contact to deliver patient care with compassion and competence. We aim to continue to personalise the delivery of healthcare and care plans for our patients. We know that patient involvement in their healthcare decisions increases engagement and treatment efficacy and we continually strive to keep patients informed and involved. Mater Private Network is accredited by the Joint Commission International .

Yesterday, our catering team in Dublin invited some of our suppliers to showcase and offer fresh Irish produce with our colleagues to mark World Mental Health Day. We were pleased to be joined by Ready Chef, La Rousse, and Vit Hit, who provided fresh fruits and vegetables, tasty samples, and healthy recipes. A healthy mind is essential for overall well-being, it works in harmony with our body, influencing how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Well done to our catering team on this wonderful initiative! #WorldMentalHealthDay

Our Dublin hospital is the first in Ireland to introduce the Optrell™ Mapping Catheter in our electrophysiology laboratory. Our Electrophysiology team is leveraging this cutting-edge technology to manage some of the most challenging cardiac arrhythmia cases. The Optrell™ Mapping Catheter, in conjunction with the CARTO™ 3 System, provides high-resolution directional mapping and intelligent insights, enabling our cardiologists to accurately and efficiently identify ablation targets. This innovation ensures a significant improvement in patient outcomes for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Already, this advanced technology has been used to successfully treat complex cases of Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) and Atrial Fibrillation (AF). VT is a life-threatening arrhythmia and a leading cause of mortality worldwide, while AF affects millions globally and its prevalence continues to rise. By adopting the latest technology, our Electrophysiology team is at the forefront of improving the safety and precision of cardiac procedures, ultimately delivering better outcomes for our patients.   Biosense Webster Johnson & Johnson MedTech | UK & Ireland #cardiology #innovation #privatehospitals

A recent quality improvement initiative from our Pharmacy team at Mater Private Network in Cork was presented at the National Patient Safety Office (NPSO) conference held at Dublin Castle. Pharmacist Shauna Barry represented the hospital and her team at the event, where she shared details of the new audit process which aims to ensure greater accuracy for patient prescriptions. The team identified areas of improvement in prescriptions for patients who were leaving our care, and this new system is already yielding positive results. Congratulations to the team and to Shauna for representing our Cork hospital so well!

Last week, our cardiac rehabilitation team in Cork organised a number of activities for their colleagues in celebration of World Heart Day and Workplace Walking Day. The event featured an information stand offering valuable advice on lifestyle changes for better heart health. This was followed by a lovely lunchtime walk – a chance for the team to stretch their legs, get some fresh air and connect with their colleagues.

Findings from the SETANTA study, led by the Cardiovascular Research Institute Dublin - CVRI at Mater Private Network, offer reassuring insights into the impact of long COVID on heart health. While many patients initially reported symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath, advanced cardiac testing including cardiac MRI and ECG, found no evidence of significant long-term heart damage. Prof. Robert Byrne, Director of Cardiology at Mater Private Network and CVRI reflects about this study: “Though many people in Ireland continue to experience symptoms after COVID-19, we can now confidently say that the risk of long-term heart damage is very low. The improvement in symptoms over time, including chest pain and shortness of breath, is also encouraging.” Read more about this study, https://bit.ly/3N2tjQk #clinicalresearch
