#Starlink is ideal for IoT and remote construction locations, taking over from legacy 2G/3G which has, or will be shortly, shut down in the UK. 4G/LTE is still aimed at cities and their conurbations, so for today's install by Ashley Loxton, satellite guru and installation engineer, at a brand new #solar farm being constructed in the West country, he installed a Starlink Standard, with a robust #ClickDataWiFi pole mount, to replace the inconsistent 4G connection. I ran through the installation of a Netcelero fixed IP & VPN solution that allows for easy access to the client's remote network over Starlink's CGNAT service. All worked well, so instead of the site having high latency and flaky 4G, they have Starlink's circa 170Mbps down and 14Mbps uplink for remote hands and CCTV. I brought down my Starlink Mini, powered by an Anker battery pack, to test the VPN and external port forwards as I can't rely on cellular networks in these very rural locations. A critical vulnerability has been discovered in SonicOS, the operating system that runs SonicWall Firewalls. The reference is CVE-2024-40766. If you are using a SonicWall as a firewall, I would advise checking with your IT provider to see that this issue has been patched or that your firewall has the required SonicOS version to remove this vulnerability! It's a serious one and there have been reports of exploits happening as a result.
