Our Founder, Ciarán McCabe, joined an expert panel at the ASHRAE Ireland Chapter event, "Advice to Your Younger Self – Key Learnings from Industry Leaders” this week. He shared insights from his impeccable 15 years in sustainability and building performance, Ciarán offered invaluable advice to the next generation of engineers on innovation and leadership in the industry. It was an inspiring evening, filled with energy from young professionals eager to make a difference in the built environment. We would like to thank the experts from JV Tierney & Co. Consulting Engineers, Arup, Ethos Engineering, Varming Consulting Engineers Ltd., Axiseng and TODD Architects Ltd. who also participated. Man, what a night at the Dean last night! Just want to start with a massive thank you to all who attended, I really hope some meaningful connections were made! The night was worth its weight in gold because of the speakers who shared their valuable perspective (over 100 years of combined experience), from founding companies to climbing up the ladder and achieving the heights of the AEC industry. Our appreciation goes to John Coroner Penny Linton Ciarán McCabe Edith Blennerhassett for an amazing panel! big thanks to Conor Deane for MCing on the night! What made this event truly special for me was watching a diverse group of strangers—people who might never have crossed paths otherwise—come together, share their experiences, and build meaningful connections over food and drinks. It was amazing to see relationships form, and we’re proud to have facilitated that! John Coroner said something that really resonated with me: “Don’t focus on getting closer to people like us—we’re almost out the door." (I know, it sounds counterproductive 🤣—after all, that’s why we’re all here!) But he went on to say, "Look to the people beside you. They are the future founders and directors. They will have more influence on your career than I will. Yes, mentorship is important, but don’t overlook the relationships with those at your level.” This is exactly why we at YEA organize these events—to foster those connections and create opportunities for relationships to grow beyond the formal setting. Personally, I’ve met so many great people at these events—some of whom I now call close friends—and one day, they may even become 'uncle' or 'aunt' to my future children. We recently visited Purple House Cancer Support, last year’s recipient of our 3kW Solar PV Grant. John Treanor, our Associate Director, met with founders Brendan and Veronica O'Leary and John Woods, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. It was inspiring to see how the grant has helped them save on energy costs, allowing them to focus even more on their incredible community work. During the visit, we offered additional advice on sustainability, which has also helped us refine the planning for this year’s 4kW Solar PV Grant. Thank you to everyone who applied this year!
