About us
Primark is an international fashion retailer employing more than 80,000 colleagues across 17 countries in Europe and the US. Founded in Ireland in 1969 under the Penneys brand, Primark aims to provide affordable choices for everyone, from great quality everyday essentials to stand-out style across women’s, men’s and kids, as well as beauty, homeware and accessories. With a focus on creating great retail experiences, Primark has over 440 stores globally and continues to expand with the aim of reaching 530 stores by the end of 2026. Primark is working to make more sustainable fashion affordable for everyone through its Primark Cares strategy, a multi-year programme that focuses on giving clothing a longer life, protecting life on the planet and supporting the livelihoods of the people who make Primark clothes. As part of this, Primark unveiled nine commitments it is working to achieve by 2030. These commitments include making all of its clothes from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials by 2030, halving carbon emissions across its value chain and pursuing a living wage for workers in its supply chain.

Mental health plays a vital role in overall well-being, shaping how we think, feel, and engage with the world. When compromised, it can lead to anxiety, depression, and stress - disrupting lives, relationships, and work. One of our Primark Cares commitments is to help improve the health and wellbeing of the workers who make our clothes and we’ve been investing for many years in programmes to support this. Access to health care, including mental health support, is a human right, yet for many in our sourcing markets, challenges are magnified by limited services, and stigma. Since 2017 we’ve partnered with St.John's Medical College Alumni Association in India to deliver the MySpace programme: https://lnkd.in/e-pndy2G, which focuses on improving mental health for garment workers by offering counselling services, awareness-raising with managers and workers to reduce stigma in factories and referral to professional support in serious cases. Based on MySpace’s success, we’ve expanded to Bangladesh with the Moner Kotha, "Conversations of the Mind" project, alongside British Asian Trust and SAJIDA Foundation, which brings this impactful program to both mills and factories. #MentalHealthMatters #PrimarkCares

🌍 👁️ Today is #WorldSightDay, a day to reflect on the global challenges of vision impairment and the steps we can take to address them. Over a billion people worldwide need glasses but don’t have access to them. This affects their quality of life, education, and job experiences and opportunities. However, 90% of these cases are preventable or treatable with the right care. One of our Primark Cares commitments is to help improve the health and wellbeing of the workers who make our clothes and we’ve been investing for many years in programmes to support the people working in our supply chain. Many workers have never had their eyes checked and vision impairment can lead to accidents, absenteeism, low productivity, and compromised quality, leading to loss of earnings. We’ve partnered with VisionSpring, a social enterprise accelerating the use of eyeglasses in emerging and frontier markets. As part of their Clear Vision Workplaces program, we’ve begun screening the vision of workers in India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam, and providing eyeglasses to those who need them. We’ve also trained factory employees as ‘Vision Champions’ to promote eyeglass use among their peers. In Bangladesh, both suppliers and factories are contributing towards the cost of the project, demonstrating strong recognition of the need for eyeglasses as well as their benefits. Looking ahead, we’ll continue to expand this initiative across other sourcing countries as well as working with governments, trade associations, and local eye care providers to build awareness and make eye healthcare more accessible. #WorldSightDay #VisionSpring #LoveYourEyes #PrimarkCares

🌟 Check out the highlights from our Durability Framework event launch! 🌟 To mark the launch of our Durability Framework, we hosted a panel discussion featuring guests from Hubbub, WRAP, and the School of Design - University of Leeds, expertly moderated by Brooke Roberts-Islam. Our panellists tackled important topics, including debunking the link between price tags and durability. A key takeaway was that the fashion industry must work together to reshape how we design for and measure durability in order to make meaningful progress. "As a business, we believe that quality and durability is a necessity, not a luxury. People need affordable and more sustainable clothing, and we believe that we [Primark] can be part of that solution," said Victoria Swain, Primark's Product Longevity and Partnership Lead. If you haven't had a chance yet, we encourage you to dive into our Primark Durability Framework: https://lnkd.in/ezPWwYqV We also want to give a special shout-out to Hubbub, who today launched their new report, Laundry Lowdown: https://lnkd.in/eST8CFcr This report examines consumer behaviours related to clothing care and provides actionable insights to inform campaigns that promote responsible care practices across all price points. Watch the highlights video from our launch event to hear inspiring stories of people who have worn and loved their clothes for a long time. 🎥👇

“As you sail the waters of the world, may your journeys be smooth and your tasks successful.” Today, Primark had the honour of joining A.P. Moller - Maersk to celebrate the naming of its latest dual-fuel methanol container vessel “Alexandra Maersk”. Elaine Condon, Director of People & Culture at Primark, assumed the prestigious role as godmother of the ship, reflecting the strong relationship and valued partnership between us and Maersk. When we launched our sustainability strategy Primark Cares in 2021, we set out our ambition to reduce our carbon emissions across our value chain by 50% by 2030. This includes looking at how we ship our products, as shipping our products makes up nearly 2% of all Primark’s carbon emissions. Through our partnership with Maersk we have started to introduce green fuel alternatives, such as Biofuel, when shipping our products, which is an important step towards reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in our ocean shipping. Godspeed, Alexandra Maersk!

At Primark how we ship our product matters given that we source from multiple markets across the world. Most of our shipping is by sea which keeps our prices affordable for our customers. It also has lower impact on the environment compared to air freight and that’s really important to us. But we can’t stop there and we’re pleased to say that through our shipping partner A.P. Moller - Maersk we have started to use green fuel alternatives, such as biofuel, in our shipping. Daniel Roe, our Climate Change Programme Senior Manager, tells us how lower-impact fuels are helping to reduce our carbon footprint across our value chain. Happy World Cotton Day! Cotton is more than just a fibre - it’s a lifeline for millions of people around the world. At Primark, cotton is the main natural fibre we use, and it's in so many of our products, from pyjamas and t-shirts, to bedding and towels. We're proud of our long-standing commitment that 100% of the cotton in our clothes will be organic, recycled, or sourced from our Primark Cotton Project by 2027. For more than 10 years, we've worked with cotton farmers in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to reduce their use of water, chemical fertilisers, and pesticides, while also teaching new skills like seed selection, land preparation, sowing, crop management, and harvesting. By 2030, all farmers in our Primark Cotton Project will adopt regenerative practices that promote soil health and biodiversity. 🌾🌳 And did you know? Over 80% of our Primark Cotton Project farmers are women! 💪👩🌾 You can meet some of the amazing farmers behind the fibre here: https://lnkd.in/gnTtU-Pp
