Sixty percent of people believe that their personal #data is routinely misused by companies, according to a new research report from PrivacyEngine. 📊 It is one of the largest #privacy studies, assessing the beliefs of 1.3 million people worldwide. 🌍 It finds that:  · 43% of people value #dataprivacy as a way of avoiding data #breaches 🔐  · 23% identify strong passwords as the most fundamental best practice for data #security 🛡️  · Individuals who are aged 65 or over are the most concerned about data privacy  · 46% feel like they have lost control of their personal information · 87% want greater controls put in place for data collection and usage 🛑 The report suggests that the findings have profound implications for businesses, emphasising the need for more ‘user-centric’ data practices.  However, at The Thread Team, we believe it is less a user-centric approach and more a people-centric approach that is needed. This is why zero-party and first-party data strategy should be at the core of any business’ data strategy. 🔄 In other data-related news, Optimizely released its annual personalisation report this week, ranking sectors according to their personalisation abilities.  🛒 Supermarkets were at the top of the tree with one in five people saying they provide ‘excellent levels of customer experience’. 🎮Gaming and sports firms were second, followed by health and wellness brands 💪, banks 🏦 and financial services, and hotels and accommodation 🏨 Transport—specifically train operators 🚂—were found to deliver the least personalised customer experience. ⚠️ Other sectors to perform poorly include utilities, estate agents, automotive companies, and charities. The EU AI Act is published in the Official Journal (Today, July 12th 2024). 🚨 This does not apply for one specific industry, it's for everyone. If you are processing any special category data under the GDPR, you will have 6 months to become AI compliant, when The AI Act will enter into force. Special Category Data: "If you carry out any form of profiling which infers things like ethnicity, beliefs, politics, health status (condition or risks), sexual orientation or sex life, you will be processing special category data and must identify an Article 9 condition for processing."
