Advanced HF and Transplant Cardiologist Dr. Aditi Nayak joins the Pumpinheart clinical advisory board. Dr. Aditi Nayak is an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist at BSW Health (Baylor Scott & White) Dallas, TX, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University School of Medicine. She completed her fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, and holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Innovation and Development from Georgia Institute of Technology’s Department of Bioengineering. Dr. Nayak’s primary research foci are: 1. Elucidating biological and social determinants of sex and race disparities in the pathophysiology and management of heart failure; 2. The application of medical device innovation, particularly in the realm of mechanical circulatory support, to address these disparities. She is the recipient of several research awards for her work in these areas, including the prestigious Philip K Caves Award awarded by the ISHLT - International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation in 2022. She has also served as elected chair of the 2023 Gordon Research Seminar for Assisted Circulation. Dr. Nayak looks forward to bringing her expertise in women’s health in the context of heart failure, and mechanical circulatory support, to the Pumpinheart team. #heartfailure #ISHLT2024 #clinicalresearch #mcs #LVAD #interventionalcardiology #clinicalspecialist

Pumpinheart teams up with CADFEM (UK-IE) At Pumpinheart, collaborating with partners who appreciate the unique needs of the startup community is essential to our mission. CADFEM (UK-IE) has been an invaluable ally on our journey towards developing our innovative medical solutions. Their commitment to offering comprehensive support for startups has been second to none. With CADFEM (UK-IE)'s one-stop-shop bundle, we've seamlessly accessed high-end simulations without sacrificing our focus on core technology. What sets CADFEM (UK-IE) 's service apart is their genuine understanding and dedication to tailoring services to meet our specific needs and budget. Their expertise in simulation spans the entire product lifecycle, perfectly aligning with our goal of delivering safe and effective devices to the market while navigating regulatory processes efficiently. Their support has been invaluable. I highly recommend them to fellow startups and encourage them to contact Linda Sweeney sooner rather than later. #Pumpinheart #Startups #Simulation #MedicalDevice #MedTech #Biotech #CADFEM

#TopCitedArticle Delighted to share that the Review article, titled 'Advancements in left ventricular assist devices to prevent pump thrombosis and blood coagulopathy' published Open Access in the Journal of Anatomy by Wiley has been one of Journal's top 10 most-cited papers compared to the articles published 1st January 2022 – 31st December 2023 in the journal (citation data from Clarivate Analytics). Pumpinheart's CMO, Dr Aamir Hameed is the Senior Author on this paper and CSO, Dr Andrew Malone is a co-author. While the percutaneous LVADs are changing the landscape of heart failure management, it's imperative to learn from all the work that has been done already to mitigate the risks associated with a mechanical circulatory support (MCS) device like an LVAD and help bring the newer smarter MCS devices to market, to effectively manage heart failure patients and limit the complications. This paper describes the development of LVADs through landmark clinical trials in detail and describes the evolution of device design to reduce the risk of pump thrombosis and achieve better hemocompatibility. Whilst driveline infection, right heart failure and arrhythmias have been recognised as LVAD-related complications, this paper focuses on complications related to pump thrombosis, especially blood coagulopathy in detail and potential strategies to mitigate this complication. Furthermore, it also discusses the LVAD implantation techniques and their anatomical challenges.
