Fantastic news today with the introduction of free HRT from January 2025 onwards. Well done to Loretta Dignam at Menopause Hub and all others who helped make this happen 🙌 🙌
🎉🎉 This just in!! Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will roll-out free hormone replace therapy (HRT) products as part of Budget 2025. ✅ The measure could save women prescribed HRT between €360 and €840 a year. (This is based on women paying between €30 and €70 per month). ✅ The measure is part of a €35 million women’s healthcare package to be announced as part of the budget. ✅ The prescription-based medicine is used by some women to relieve symptoms of menopause, and funding will be contingent on prescriptions. ✅ The new scheme to be introduced in January 2025 and will see the state fund the cost to patients of medicines/patches/devices (such as coils) etc. ✅ Improving menopause care has been a priority since the publication of the first Women’s Health Action Plan and significant progress has been made to improve supports for women experiencing menopause symptoms both the primary and specialist care level. ✅ A Quick Reference Guide for Menopause launched to support GPs and Practice Nurses in diagnostics and treatment at the primary care level. ✅ Opened 6 specialist menopause clinics for women who have complex experiences of menopause. Under the new Women’s Health Action Plan, we are extending the opening hours of these clinics to provide care to more women. ✅ National Menopause Awareness campaign was launched in October 2022. This was a direct response to the demand from Irish women for greater knowledge and understanding of menopause as well as better access to accurate information and supports. ✅ Removed VAT from HRT products in Budget 2023 to assist with the cost. Well done to all who helped and supported the cause!!!! We did it!

There is something unique about the way women collaborate and problem solve together. It was a room full of positive energy and shared ambition at the Goodbody Female Founders Financial Forum. This pilot initiative brought together the founders of start-ups to discuss funding, corporate structures and financial planning. Mark Richardson of Azets Ireland gave us great insights on EIIS relief and Niamh O Neill of Goodbody discussed the fundraising landscape and options. Patricia Kane of Pragmatica explained the process of achieving B Corp status. We had a great opportunity to discuss common challenges and brainstorm solutions with Aine Kennedy, Louise Stokes, Kim O Sullivan, Helena McMahon, Caroline Dalton and Peigin Crowley. A huge thank you to the Goodbody team of Michelle O'Keefe CFP® Dip IOD, Niamh O’Neill, Denise Fitzgerald, Sarah Stokes and Laura DeVoy, CFA, CFP® for supporting this initiative and Phoebe Toal for bringing us all together. Goodbody has led the way in terms of supporting women in business and many of their initiatives including The Gloss x Goodbody Investment Club provide a great platform to help plan for the future. BREAKING NEWS for women's health in Ireland...Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, is to issue a plan for free HRT in the coming weeks. This is truly wonderful news for all women in Ireland who regularly spend up to €70 a month on HRT alone. Commenting in a breakingnews.ie article only yesterday, Loretta Dignam, founder of The Menopause Hub, said "Providing free HRT and mid-life health checks for all women between 45 and 64 could save the State millions." A huge thank you to Loretta Dignam and all those who campaigned tirelessly over the years for free HRT. Let's hope the free mid-life health checks are next on the agenda. WOOHOO!! I have been campaigning for FREE HRT for Peri/menopausal women since i opened the Menopause Hub in Dec 2018, the first dedicated menopause clinic in Ireland and one of the first in the world. And as recently as yesterday, I was in the national media calling on the government to provide free HRT to women, on the back of their recent expansion of free contraception to women in Ireland. Read article in breakingnews.ie https://lnkd.in/ev9_-kYV And... this morning, I opened the The Irish Times to read that Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, is to issue a plan for Free HRT in the coming weeks. WOW! What a speedy response to yesterday's media call! My request now, of Minister Donnelly, is that his plan translates to action and that it is implemented as part of our upcoming budget!! What a great day for the peri/menopausal women of Ireland and the generations to follow. Women have borne a disproportionate economic burden for being female, having to buy: period products, pay for contraception and now pay up to €80 per month for HRT. This is changing, but we need more! #menopause #perimenopause #womenshealth #womenseconomicburden #equityforall Holly Cairns TD Josepha Madigan T.D. It astounds us that even today, medical research remains biased towards the male body, to the detriment to all women. In ‘How medical research is failing women‘, Global Health Editor of the Financial Times, Sarah Neville, reports on the gender disparities of medical research and the norm of defaulting to male bodies in scientific studies. A recent study by the McKinsey Health Institute reported how women suffer 52% more ‘total adverse effects’ from approved medicines than men, largely due to drugs being developed for the male body, rather than taking into the account the differences between women and men. When is this ever going to change? https://lnkd.in/eFzeQf9b Louise O'Riordan Jennifer O´Connell Aoife Matthews #sisterly #femalehealth #supplements
