About us
Sitting on 12 acres of manicured gardens and woodland in the heart of the Boyne Valley, The Station House Hotel is just 40 minutes from Dublin city centre and Dublin Airport. A multi award winning hotel, and a member of the prestigious Ireland’s Blue Book, The Station House is best known for its warm welcome, it’s focus on serving the finest of local and Irish produce, and hosting beautiful events in elegant and charming surroundings. The perfect base for exploring the Boyne Valley with its rich heritage including the nearby UNESCO world heritage site at Bru na Boinne (Newgrange, Knowth & Dowth), the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Dunsany Castle and Nature Reserve, and much more. For those seeking activity, there are 2 championship golf courses within 7km (Killeen Castle & Royal Tara) as well as a host of other activities such as horse-riding, cycling, shooting shopping, or just chilling by the fires on a winters day or on the Terrace as the warmer days approach. Built in 1862 as a busy railway junction, The Station House has a rich history itself, withstanding a fire attack in the 1920’s until it quietly retired from service in 1963. The Slattery family then purchased the property in 1981, registering it with Bord Failte in 1983 before launching Signal Restaurant and the hotel in 1984. Specialising in events, The Station House embodies country house charm and provides the perfect location for off-site meetings and gatherings, as well as larger events hosting up to 200 guests in the stunning Carriage Suite - originally the locomotive workshop. With 19 individually decorated bedrooms, it is the perfect hideaway, just a quick drive from the city. Open 7 days and available for exclusive hire. Tough day at the office today at the Tindal Wine Merchants annual tasting event! Over 50 producers from all over the world showcasing their best wines and spirits, including good friend Patrick Shelley of Origin Spirits Ireland Ltd (producer of Irish premium spirits Ornabrak Gin, Kalak Vodka and Currach Whiskey - all stocked in our bar at The Station House Hotel . Quite worryingly we discussed the impact of climate change on viticulture, with a reduction of up to 30% in acidity and an increase of 20% in alcohol observed in some of the finer Chablis wines. Not a bad complaint we might say but worrying & striking all the same. Great wines on show from top producers Marchesi Antinori and Barton Family Wines , but also amazing smaller producers like the twin brother start up Clos Thierrière (loved their 2022 Vouvray Petrichor) and closer to home, Irishman’s Dermot Sugrue Sugrue South Downs and his fantastic English sparkling wines and Bonkers Chardonnay (a seriously good wine despite the name!). Alessandro (our Head of Food & Beverage and chief sommelier - the real expert) and myself (the chief taster!) are on a mission this year to introduce more new and exciting wines to The Station House which will be showcased at our regular Boyne Valley Tasting Dinner events and other wine tasting events through-out the year.
