  • It rarely happens, but it is rarely accepted when it does... Offering a candidate less than their current salary fails for many reasons including: ▪️ Market Competitiveness: In a competitive job market, candidates have better opportunities available. When companies offer less, candidates are likely to continue seeking higher offers elsewhere. ▪️ Financial Stability: Candidates have existing commitments such as mortgages, education costs, and retirement plans. Reducing their salary may not be feasible even if they are highly interested in the role. ▪️ Psychological Impact: From a psychological perspective, accepting a lower salary is often seen as a step backward, which can affect a candidate’s self-esteem and overall job satisfaction. This is especially true if they believe they deserve a salary increase based on their experience. 🚫 But the number one reason why is fails, and why it is hard to come back from is... ⬇️ Perceived Value and Respect: Offering a lower salary can signal to the candidate that the company undervalues their skills, experience, and worth. Candidates often feel disrespected by such offers, leading them to question the organisation’s culture and potential for career development. • Post #Budget2024 and the recruitment challenges facing the #Hardware Industry, how can companies get the most out of recruitment agencies to bring talent to their teams? 1. Build Long-Term Partnerships: Instead of using recruitment agencies on a transactional, per-need basis, cultivate long-term relationships. This allows agencies to understand your company culture, specific needs, and industry nuances better, leading to higher quality matches. Strong relationships also increase loyalty, so the agency prioritises your job openings when top talent is available. 2. Leverage Specialist Agencies: In highly competitive sectors, it’s advantageous to work with niche recruitment agencies that specialise in the specific skill sets required. These agencies have deeper talent pools and better industry insights to help navigate the talent shortage. Tactical Talent Recruitment is Ireland's leading #specialistrecruiter for #Hardware, #KBB and #HeatingandPlumbing. #wearehiring #irishjobs

#Budget2024 was an important one for the #Hardware industry. The government has allocated €680 million towards affordable housing schemes and the rejuvenation of vacant properties to address the housing crisis. This will put huge demand on the hardware industry for building materials and services. KPMG Ireland noted that "as the Hardware Industry expands to meet government infrastructure and housing goals, recruitment agencies and businesses in the sector will face pressure to fill roles quickly. This may lead to increased competition for talent, with companies potentially having to offer higher wages or better incentives to attract skilled professionals". Companies in the sector need to start thinking now about future recruitment needs, and the teams they will need to resource to meet the extra demand coming down the tracks. Don't assume that you've plenty of time to find the right people and skills to meet this demand, start planning now! As Ireland's #SpecialistRecruiter for the Hardware Industry and the only recruitment partner of Hardware Association Ireland, we are very well placed to advise you on the recruitment landscape in Ireland and connect you with much sought after #talent, as you begin to plan for the future.

  • Iseult has been sharing her thoughts on why the 'time to hire' is increasing #timetohire #werehiring #irishjobs

Specialist Recruiter for Hardware | DIY | KBB | Home Retail Sectors in Ireland

Despite the high volume of job openings, the time to hire has increased considerably in recent years. What’s causing this delay? Changing Candidate Expectations Post-pandemic, candidate expectations have shifted significantly. Job seekers are now more selective, with many being passive candidates—open to new opportunities but only if their specific needs are met. These needs often revolve around location, with many preferring roles within a short commuting distance. Flexibility is also a top priority, particularly hybrid work options. Additionally, benefits like healthcare and work-life balance have become as important as salary. Candidates are less likely to compromise, which has prolonged the hiring process as they hold out for the perfect offer. Salary Misalignment Salaries have become a major sticking point in today’s job market. While candidates often expect higher pay, many companies are unable or unwilling to meet these demands, leading to a standoff. This misalignment between salary expectations and what companies can offer has further slowed down the hiring process. Cautious Hiring by Employers Companies have also become more cautious in their hiring practices, particularly after dealing with turnover and the challenges of hybrid work. Many are now looking for candidates who can start immediately without requiring much training or development. This focus on finding the “perfect fit” without compromise is contributing to the longer hiring timelines. Increased Competition for Talent The competition for talent remains high, which is another factor extending the time to hire. Candidates are often considering multiple offers, and companies must move carefully to secure them. However, this also means that businesses can lose out to competitors or take longer to finalise offers as they try to meet these higher demands. The lengthening time to hire is a product of evolving candidate expectations, salary disparities, and cautious hiring practices. As the job market continues to evolve, companies that adapt by offering flexibility, aligning with candidate expectations, and streamlining their hiring processes will be better positioned to attract top talent efficiently. #HiringTrends #CandidateExpectations #JobMarket #TimeToHire #WorkFlexibility #HRChallenges
