"I was scared, but I had faith in myself." Melinda Voynova, Senior Chemist at Teva Bulgaria, remembers her first days as an intern at Teva. The beginning was challenging, and she wasn't sure how she would manage her new role and the responsibilities that came with it. However, her self-belief, along with the support of her colleagues and managers, helped her succeed. "I had excellent mentors who gave their all to help me learn" she says. Having supported herself through her chemical studies as a photo model, she then found herself on the other side of the lens, working on some of the world's most cutting-edge laboratory equipment. Eight years later, Melinda is grateful for the opportunities she's had to grow and develop her professional skills. "I would call my work 'a palette of colors'", she says, highlighting her diverse and dynamic nature of her role. This is not unusual for people like Bethany Chalmers, who live with tardive dyskinesia (TD) – a rare movement disorder that can impact a person’s daily life in many big and small ways. And TD is just one of 7,000+ rare diseases affecting millions of people globally. Rare diseases often have no cure, and too often, those living with one of these diseases may feel hopeless and forgotten. This is why research matters. We are pleased to share that today the FDA has accepted our supplemental New Drug Application for a potential expansion of the indication of our schizophrenia treatment long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic to also include bipolar I disorder. If approved, a new LAI treatment option for those living with #BP1 may help support patients and their HCPs.
