  • Harshvardhan Balyan opened the fireside chat with a thought-provoking question for the audience: “How many of you are aware that in India, people can now give money to the average user by leverageing Unified Payments Interface (UPI)?” About 95% of the audience was visibly surprised, as they hadn’t heard of this development. In the session, Breaking Barriers: Overcoming Challenges in Achieving Inclusive Digital Banking, Femi Longe emphasized the importance of financial inclusion, noting that in places like Nigeria, cash payments are often replaced by convenient digital transfers, even for services like taxis. “We need to recognize that money is a representation of your contributions to the world,” Longe said. He also urged people to read terms and conditions more carefully, sharing a story of a document stating, “By signing this, we own your soul,” which was accepted by nearly 15,000 people before anyone noticed. The discussion further highlighted that streamlining financial products to address the unique needs of underserved populations can drive meaningful change. However, if technology fails to foster trust, address local financial pain points, and simplify processes, it risks perpetuating exclusion. True inclusion leads to empowerment, shared prosperity, and poverty reduction. The session closed with a call to action, inspiring attendees to advocate for inclusive financial practices that empower communities and promote economic resilience globally. #Thriveinclusion #financialliteracy #financialinclusion #inclusivefinance #DigitalBanking #CashlessEconomy #dublin

  • The event began powerfully with an eye-opening presentation from Sophie Ajala, setting the stage with essential insights into the global state of financial inclusion—a critical segment providing a comprehensive overview of the issues at hand. Sophie shared staggering statistics that underscore the urgency of this issue: - 1.4 billion people out of 8.2 billion lack access to basic banking and financial services. - 1 in 5 individuals remains without access to a bank account—often impacting students, people with disabilities, and immigrants. Sophie underscored the barriers that prevent financial inclusion and emphasized the critical role of ThriveInclusion in addressing these challenges. She left us with a powerful call to action: “Let’s use this moment to dismantle barriers, rethink assumptions, and work together to make financial inclusion a reality for all.” Source 1). Lung, H. MSc in Finance and Technology | Passionate about Financial Inclusion

A huge thank you to ThriveInclusion and Adebola Olomo for hosting such an insightful event at the Linkedln Community Center! I am truly grateful to be part of a community dedicated to promoting financial inclusion and literacy. One of my key takeaways is the critical need to localize digital financial products to meet the specific needs of various regions. I strongly recommend that we recognize that while access to financial tools is essential, understanding the nuances of digital financial inclusion in different countries is equally important. Streamlining financial products to address the unique requirements of underserved populations can lead to significant improvements. If technology does not foster trust, address local financial pain points, and simplify processes, we risk perpetuating exclusion. Inclusion leads to empowerment, shared prosperity and poverty reduction which are key focus areas of The World Bank I also found it fascinating to learn how the average user in India can leverage Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for everyday transactions. Such an excellent example of how technology can enhance financial accessibility. The expert panels, featuring insightful voices like Femi Longe , Prag Sharma , Onur Korucu , Bolu Adeagbo , Celeste O , shed light on the diverse approaches different regions are taking to tackle financial accessibility gaps. Hearing their perspectives has reinforced my commitment to championing financial empowerment and highlighted the importance of collaboration in building a more inclusive future. A special thanks to Sophie Ajala and everyone who made this event a success! Always a pleasure seeing Olalekan Lawal, ACA . Let’s continue to drive impactful conversations and take meaningful action to bridge the financial inclusion gap. 🌍✨ #financialinclusion #Technology #FinancialLiteracy #inclusivefuture
