From a life without electricity and running water to a career in software engineering…anything is possible when you put learning at the center. Mhlengi Zindela's story began in the village of Nkandla, South Africa, where he was born. He had no electricity or running water, but that didn’t stop him. He lived with his great-grandmother and learned lessons in compassion, humility, and something that stuck with him forever: the value of education. School was a long walk from his home and the education system was far from perfect, but in Mhlengi’s words, he always felt a “burning desire to conquer the world through knowledge.” Things started looking up when he and his family eventually got electricity and tap water, making it easier for him to focus on his studies. After high school, Mhlengi took a gap year due to financial issues, started networking, and grew eager to learn more about the transformative power of technology. In 2018, he began attending Mangosuthu University of Technology. Because of his pursuit and determination, he was accepted into an internship program at The Academy of Accelerated Technology Education (AATE), where Mhlengi started learning on Udemy Business to get even further in his career. Even through battling financial struggles, he supported his family while also staying focused on leveling up his skills. All his hard work paid off when he landed a full-time job as a Software Engineer at Investec Bank where he continues to learn with Udemy Business. Now, Mhlengi has a solid career in IT – once a distant dream is now his reality. #PowerofPossibilites #AlwaysLearning #StoriesofTransformation
